e Book lFE'S Theme is Music. YVhen Tomorrow, the pages of this volume are turned may they echo the Life of Yesterday-which is Central Today. Central with its ldeals, Achievements, Laughter, NVorries, Hopes all fused into a triumphant Symphony- life. Life's Theme is Nlusic-so the Book. Music is the Servant and the Rlasterg the Servant of those dead and the Blaster of those living. The Prospectus would Serve those who are to be remembered and Compel the interest of those who read. lt would be the microphone of echoing Halls, crowded Stands, a trickling Brook, busy Classrooms, majestic Towers. For the joy of playing-our Band and Orchestra. For the joy of singing-our A Cappella Choir. For the joy of living-all of Us. On the alternately profound and lilting Strains of a Beethoven Over- ture we Were lifted to national Prominenceg and with the Songs and Choruses of all Nations-all Time-VVe sang a universal Song which the VVorld heard and commended. From the first Assembly with its fanfare of Bugles and roll of Drums, inciting and instilling the Spirit which is Central's, to that Baccalaureate Sunday Morning with its somber gray-clad Seniors marching to the solemn strains of the organ, runs a Symphony of many Nloods-the Symphony that this Prospectus has taken for its Theme.

JOHN PHILIP SOUSA 1451 Bl OAl3W'AY NEW XYORK CITY joux PHILI1' Sorstx February 25, 1930 It is with a distinct feeling of pleasure that I recall my many pleasant visits to Flint, both with my own band on concert tour and as a judge in the recent band contest. I have had the pleasure of conducting your Central high school band on many occasions during my concerts at Flint, and I can with all sincerity say that you have one of the finest bands I have ever heard in the field of amateur music. In an industrial city like yours it is remarkable that such a fine organization exists and is so appreciated by the public. At no time in the history of our land has music received more recognition than is now given it. The steady increase in the number of symphonic bodies, the more complete instrumentation of our bands, and the greater ability of our musicians all tend to show that music in the United States is on a healthy and progressive basis.
