CLASS OFFICERS JUST BEGUN Most of us will be leaving here soon and returning only to see how the school changes through the years. Leaving high school seems like a big step, a great accomplishment. Little do we realize, it's only just begun. Central High, like all other schools, is just a pitstop between grammar school and college. We were in our in between years (stay up past 11:00-stage), so they sent us here to mature, using education as an excuse. Most of us killed two birds with one stone. We've managed to mature into fine young men and women while also receiving a good education. Now, the hard part begins, we have to decide whether to go to college, the armed forces, work or just bum around for the rest of our lives. Statistics says that one out of every ten of us will not make it. Let's make a liar out of them by making the Central High graduating Class of '83-100% successful. Once we reach the top, and | know we will, it's important to remember not just where we came from, but how we got there. Dressed in leather jackets, poodle skirts, bobby socks and oxfords, they relived the fiftees. The guys were crooning in the corridors while the girls admired them from afar. He not only lead the team in scoring but also set a school record for rushing yardage. His total for one season is 1,178 yards. His running mates Marvin Covin and Edward Reed also lugged the ball for a considerable amount of yardage. All-State tackle Fred Bond lead the team defensively. Alfonso Johnson, Tyrone Kimbrough, Vicent Wil- son, Derrock Jennings and Micheal Fears are also members of this outstanding defensive unit. They designed pages and determined the cropping of pic- tures. The literary staff, under the direction of Shelby Jones and Wanda Walker, cooridinated the pictures with written pieces. Linda Castillo and Ruth Mclorin were instrumental in developing the senior section. The sports staff was managed by Wanda Adams. These four groups worked together with one goal in mind- a successful yearbook packed with life lasting memories of the high school days. February 9, 1983, was a special day at Central High. Our school became colorful, exciting, jovial, aspiring, inspiring, jubilant and torrid. Centralites witnesses a well planned fashion show under the direction of Mr. Angelo Ellerbee. He is a top notch fashion designer and a writer for Essence Maga- zine. Mr. Ellerbee is a product of the Newark School System; he has become very successful in New York and on the international circuit. The lovely models were truly outstanding. The program also included several dance routines by the Spectrum Dance Company. Mr. Jay Jenkins was the choreographer. The show was produced by Sunrise Produc- tions in celebration of Black Histo- ry Month. Both groups communicated well with the audience. Every dancer and model had his her own dis- tinct style. The theme was: the history of tomorrow is in the youth of today.
