Cog ’N’ Pen Editors 1965 Ann Mitchell Kdward Maxwell Often happiness, as well an information, comes from learning. Teenage in the time for questioning, for eurionitv. Knowledge, at thin stage, can he very satisfying. A hoy who solves a difficult mathematics problem feels proud of result; so does the one who fixes an elcetrie switch. The girl who can type is glad she learned the u»c of a machine which enables her to present her work in a businesslike fashion. Glad, too, is she to have a skill to ofTer in the industrial world. The pupils who have learned to speak clearly, pul on a panel discussion or a play, have fun at rehearsal and a feeling of warmth and achievement when the applause greets their efforts. High level of learning brings justified pride in seeing names on honor rolls. Learning words and music to a song has paid off in a public appearance; the painting of attractive pictures has been rewarded by an exhibit. Acquiring the art of playing an instrument well on the stage or on the field brings pleasure to the musician ami to those who listen. learning the rules of the game and the spirit of competition gives emotional satisfaction to both performer and spectator. From any facet of education (with its wide variety of curriculum and extra-curricular activity) can come happiness of a quiet, personal sort or of a big. shared type. This is the idea we have gained in the years here. This is the theme of our book: that we gain happiness through learning. Juanita Murph) Patricia F.vcrrtt
