Home Economics Department Tlu lilirary is one road to happiness through learning, the theme of the 1965 Central High Seliool Yearbook. The calming atmosphere is soothing in itself. By reading the hooks, of which there are thousands, the students may gain pleasure, peace, and knowledge—three excellent contributions toward happiness. I.eft lo right: Mr . Leonora Crrene. The girls are offered an opportunity to learn both culinary ami fashion skills. Sewing and rooking, designing and baking have a definite appeal to the female heart. The better she looks, the happier she feels; The better she cooks, the happier he feels. Learn these arts to bring happiness to yourself and others. Music Department In speaking of opportunities, Mr. Eric Lundie remarked, “One of the subjects offered by the Music Department is Music Foundations. This is an orientation course which explores the field of iniisie, especially the work done in (»rades I through 8. It equips the student with knowledges, skills, and appreciation leading to a fuller musical life. Objectives: 1. To discover talents and interests: 2. To encourage pupils to elect further music courses during the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth years: 3. To discover musically talented pupils and encourage their self-development, vocally and instni-mentally. Content of course: I. Songs, unison and part. 2. Basic theory of music. 3. Voice classification. 4. Orchestral and hand instruments. 5. Composers, past and present. 6. Performers, past and present. 7. Program ami absolute music. 8. Introduction to forms in music. The department is proud of its hand, its (,irl ' (rice Club, its Choristers. Technical Department The Industrial Art or Technical Department, according to its chairman, Mr. Joseph Ram, offers, “A program to train our young people in the knowledge, understanding and skill necessary for economic and social competence in our expanding and changing society—placing special emphasis upon training these young | eople to cam a livelihood in an industrial community.” The courses given include: Electric! tv. Through experience with art forms and various art media, the student improve hi visual perception and understanding. The courses available at Central include: painting, graphics, architecture, fashion design, illustration, industrial design, technical art. advertising, and lettering—-as well as art history. Mr. Stark says “The student of art gains confidence through accomplishment. Medical Department l)r. Morri Ba» School Physician Central High ha three profession al people to serve the need of it pupil : Two doctor and a nurse. The nurse’s office is open during the entire school day. Certain day are set aside for physical examination . Doctor Ha comes for the hoy and Doctor Schults for the girls. Among the mall) service rendered are: examination of teeth, checking of eye ; the patch and other tests: the administering of polio shot to those who did not have them in the summer months. A teacher may send a pupil who is ill to the nurse at any time, listing the reason. The teacher signs the slip. The nurse see the student, mark the time of leaving the health office, and sign her name. A blue slip j.. used, headed “Teacher-Nurse Report for High School”. I hope that you will heed my word of advice, our future employer will he keenly interested in your attendance record, lie will have no sympathy for employee who leave their job early because they got sick, or had to do a family errand, or had to go home to change their pant , or had to find someone from whom to borrow money. He will he interested in knowing if you left your job before you were scheduled.
