Physical Education Department “Our main idea it to teach the pupil to make maximum use of knowledge, attitude , “kill- and hahit , o that he may he able to aet in situations that ure physically wholesome, mentally stimulating and satisfying, socially sound, and morally proper. We believe in, ‘A sound mint! in a sound body . Our thought in a lifetime of happiness through learning physical and mental health. New Jersey law requires each pupil to take and pass the course each year lie is in school. Aside from the four years of physical education (freshmen to seniors) the Department gives: I. Personal Health, II. First Aid, III. Driver Education, IV. Personal, Social Adjustment and Child Care. Some hoys arc aide to go to College because of athletic ability. Modern Language Department Central offer it high eliool students the opportunity to learn foreign language . Knowing a foreign language can make our lives fuller and happier. The world’s si .e has not changed; yet. today conditions bring us into daily contact with so many people from all parts of the world. It is. therefore, totally inadequate to know only one’s native language. In Mr. Mi lone’s words, “Of great importance is foreign language study: it is most necessary and invaluable if we are to he able to communicate intelligently. to he understood and to understand each other’s cultural heritage, customs and ways of life. Science Department Mr. Salkin (liowing lODir “rock 'I hr atudy of science is a practical, profitable, and often fascinating expenditure of time, life's most precious commodity. This pursuit gives (to quote Mr. Paul llaesler, Chairman of the department) “Better understanding of your surroundings and more comprehension of animals and plants.” Science gives knowledge to improve health and prolong life. The study of mechanics, light, electricity, and sound can Iw covered, as well as that of “space” and time, fascinating can the crust of the earth become with its soil (rich or arid); its rivers anil lakes, it fiery volcanoes and gorgeous waterfalls; and its wealth of vegetables and trees above, minerals and precious stones below the surface.
