English Department Mr. DcLisi, Chairman of Central High School’s English Department, say lie believes, “Our American civilization today depends, more so than ever in the past, upon the social goals of an educated intelligence and a sense of responsibility on the part of all our citizens. n ever-widening range of problems has presented to us a set of imperatives to education that must become absolute if our western way of life is to endure. English teachers everywhere have therefore dedicated themselves to help develop a general citizenry and a labor force of a level of intellectual development that will fill the needs of our present day civilization.” The English Department meets each pupil in every year of his High School life. It also offers the student an opportunity of knowledge, pleasure, and sclf-expression in other ways than classroom activity. At this writing, the department is responsible for the production of assembly programs; bringing out a school paper, “The Tangent”; offering membership in a Future Teachers’ Group, in a Dramatic Club: and in the publication of a yearhok. Business Department The Business Department of Centrul High School throughout the years has earned the respect of the business community for the preparation of its graduates for positions in the areas of secretarial work, hookkeeping, ami accounting and other office occupations. The Business Department ul»o contributes to the cdu-eation of all Central High School students by making available many subjects that will enrich the personal and economic background of every student. The Business Kdueation program at Central High School is welhknown for the comprehensiveness of its secretarial, bookkeeping, and clerical patterns of study and has much to ofTer students who are preparing for a full life in our community. Mathematics Department Mr. Schlosser report . Wc are in the mi«l-t of adjusting to new course of »tudy, which are even now under consideration in committees, on a city-wide basis. At the present time, course include- general mathematics, algebra, plane and solid geometry.
