CLASS HISTORY FEBRUARY 1938 ERE I am, a Central High School student. Well, here | am anyway Am 1 lucky, managed to buy an elevator ticket from a soph So, you need a medical excuse for the ele- vator, huh? When | see that soph, he'll need one First holiday from School Always did think Lincoln was a great guy Hmmm, another one. | guess Washington was just as great Vad Darn it! That F shows up so much on these small report cards Made up my mind to be prepared for all tricks, but was caught at 8:31 by the old “Your shoelace is untied” gag. Oh well Discovered Bill's today . . . Spring fever is getting me Say, where are all these blondes Central is supposed to have? Haven't seen a natural yet. Whoopee!!! INTERMISSION Back to school. “Educated” frosh now. Well, almost educated. Had first assembly this term. Band warmed up for football games. Stu- dents practiced some cheers. Sang a song supposedly to have been “Cheer, Cheer for Central.” Student opinion varies from “Maryland, My Maryland,” to “Old Black Joe.” “Doc” Smith couldn't be pinned down for a definite answer . . . It was “Cheer, Cheer for Central after all. The drummer told me. Good old Columbus. | was forgetting how it felt to be out from school a day. Guess 1!!! have to become famous after all to give the high school students more holidays. That F still looks δία... Losing interest in blondes. Can't find her any- way. Celebrated Armistice Day in advance by making peace with Study Hall teacher over a cut. She accepted the explanation. Evidently cut- ting must be easy to get away with. Must do it again soon... Gosh, | thought the explanation was better than before. Wish they'd put cushions on the office chairs. Wonder if they play hookey before Christmas in High School . . . Yes, they do... Yes | did... No it's not worth it. Not one F was visible as a term mark. Yippee! The lowest mark was a D. (That's all I got.) Tried to get in at the Junior-Senior Prom, but the doorman said | was a “Freshie,” 222 Ah, me, the 4A's have graduated. Now | know I'm closer to my goal. FEBRUARY 1939 t natural March Caesar was killed on the laughed at Miss O'Connor”: today. Lucky | have her for a st am | dumb. Don't say it April Wasn't even foo girl to cure it for me Saw my first Central Observation: Boy | | go out for the baseball team next Girl ink ГИ go out with the baseball team next May Soph seen smoking a pipe (me) Same Soph absent from (me again) June Success! INTERMISSION Sept. Ho, hum, school again. I'm getting used to it now No song this term Oct. Wow! Have | discovered a blonde, (natural, too), right after Columbus Day. Columbus and | must be psychic . Think ГИ take up dancing ... Timed Miss O'Connor's joke perfectly. Nov. Something's wrong. Central doesn't seem to realize its good fortune in getting our class. Oh, well, they'll find out Dec. Santa Claus presented us with a long, awaited vacation. Earned it too No F's Jan. Only two more years of school, and l'Il be wearing a cap and gown, (maybe.) Our advisers are starting to collect class dues, and not quite a junior yet. Silly, ain't it? FEBRUARY 1941 CLASS WILL Y FRIENDS, ١ have called you to assemble here as a solemn duty, that you, the heirs and assigns of my respected client, the Class of 1942, may hear her last will and testament which, as her legal advisers, we drew, as directed by her immediately prior to her passing from our presence May we, as well as our lamented client, entreat that you receive your respective legacies in the spirit of unselfish friendship with which they were given! | shall appreciate your courteous attention while I read this duly attested will. We, the Class of 1942, in the City of Newark, the County of Essex, and the State of New Jersey, being about to pass out of this sphere of education, in full possession (we think) of a crammed mind, well (?) trained memory, and almost super-human understanding, being in as good mental condition as usual, and in much better temper than usual, do hereby make this our Last Will and Testament, rendering void and of no avail any former will or wills that may have been previously made by us during a period of temporary sanity (or optimism). Item 1. To Mr. Ralston, our principal, we give and bequeath a sense of relief that we have at last been graduated, pleasant memories of our years together, and a feeling of pride in any great deeds or noteworthy achieve- ments that our future may contain. Item 2. To our teachers we bequeath our invaluable sense of humor, without which we should have found school life painful, indeed, and which will do much to make it endurable for them. We also leave them such know- ledge as we have imparted to them in our daily work. We know that much of such knowledge must have been entirely new to them, as well as to all teachers and students everywhere, and would throw much new light on many an unfamiliar line of thought. SPECIFIC TO THE FACULTY To Miss Allen, a means of shortening her power to give long short- hand assignments. To Mrs. Hopper, an extensive and all-embracing course in the art of sketching to help her bring her Art Students “out of the fog.” To Mr. Haessler, we leave many broken test tubes to be used as toys. To Dr. McSharry, just one class, small if need be, but intellectual so that he can give the kind of English course he'd like to. To Mr. Eisen we leave a clothes pin as an article for defense in certain experiments. To Mr. Turnbull, we bequeath a roll of undeveloped film to use as he pleases hread for those unexpected runs that s of someday having a piano that is in tune To Dr. Profeta, his beloved Sales Club—a miniature department store To Mr. Schleicher, one soap box on which to make his daily his- tory speeches Item 3. We give and bequeath to the Junior Class our well known “NERVE”, Item 4. To our good friends, the Sophomore Class, we leave our pati- ence. It will be found useful as the only means by which they can endure the present day Juniors Item 5. We have left the Freshmen nothing, because by the time they become Sophomores their self-valuation will have attained such heights, that no thing in our possession would be regarded by them as worthy of their distinction. Finally, we do hereby name and appoint as the sole executors of this, our Last Will and Testament, our class advisers, Mrs. Rosamond Hopper and Dr. John T. McSharry. In witness whereof, we, the Class of 1942, the testator, have set our hand and seal on this twenty-first day of January,in the year of our Lord 1942.
