From Principal to Parent Dear Parents: Ours is the biggest and most responsible joy in the world. It is the greatest task we shall ever be called upon to perform, and yet we are not paid in anything the world calls pay. A spiritual joy and reward come with the joyful work of unselfishly doing for others. Think of your task of raising a family as a Divine duty and a blessed privilege. The immediate reward for your thoughtful and judicious study of the problems of life involved in bringing up a family, will be children who have learned to live for and with others. This will result in the nations of the earth knowing and understanding each other, and thus making future wars impossible. Very truly yours, Principal. We do hereby bequeath to the freshies, if they can appreciate it, the school with its unmarked desks and books. То Mr. William Wiener, we leave our school mates, who need his help and understanding as badly as we did. To the students as a whole, we do bequeath the able help of the finest set of teachers ever known to mankind. To the freshies we submit, for their approval, Rogues Gallery (first floor corridors) and the earnest desire to be among them some day. To those students inspiring of higher honor, we do advise the use of the Super Honor Roll. We bet a dime we got on the roll more times than you do. To the sophomores the joy and exuberance of being no longer freshies. To the juniors the sorrow (7) of being seniors next year, Tsk! Tsk! How sorry we were to become seniors. To the Class of June, 1935, we bequeath one Indian Head penny, to help them in their finan- cial difficulties. To the seniors we leave Mr. Miller, if he can’t make a Pivot for you no one else can. To the students who a little nervously prepare for a speech in the auditorium we leave Dr. Gold- stein. He'll cure you or no one else will. we do bequeath those How we To the student body heartless patrolmen and patrolwomen. loved it when, after walking nearly the whole length of the corridor, we met a patrolman who barred our passage saying, “Follow the arrows, please.” To those who decide that they won’t be missed in class today, we leave the seat around the flag- pole, but we advise them that the movies are better; they won’t get caught, maybe. For the incoming seniors a gadget to hold their hearts in the right place while waiting for a 4A O. K. in Miss Martin’s office. We also leave those delightful locks which open so easily, especially when we open them a few seconds before the last bell. We also do bequeath those 4A’s who after graduating suddenly decide to come back for a Р. G., because they cannot find a position. (You can expect nearly all of us back.) So in the presence of witnesses we do declare this to be our last will (if you can call this a will) and testament. Hoping you won’t get gray hairs figuring what we mean, we set our seal on this Twenty-fifth day of January і the year Nineteen Hundred and Thirty-five. i (Signed) CLASS OF JANUARY, 1935. Т е wind was whistling through the trees. I turned on the radio and settled myself comfortably in my easy chair before the blazing fireplace. My favorite news commentator, Leo Rabinowitz, came on the air through the courtesy of the Jablonski Drum Manufacturing Corporation. “Good evening, everybody! It's ten years ago tonight that I was graduated from my dear old Alma Mater, Central High School; therefore 1 am dedicating this program to my fellow gradu- ates. Now for the first news item of the evening Representative Joel Greene has just returned from a conference in Washington which ironed out the strike difficulties of the Acabone and Goldberg Dog Biscuit Company. The Socialist Party is making rapid strides Robert Ontell is the Socialist candidate for the House of Representatives and the Silverman brothers are managing his campaign. Herman Brummer, the financier, has just re- turned from abroad. Frank Castro has just been appointed football coach at Notre Dame for the coming season. Fanny Tabolsky, that popular authoress, has just written a scenario which will star Eva Remondell. The part of the leading man will be taken by Paul Satz or Albert Neugebauer. Emil Kaunitz and Harold Baranoff are the cameramen. Thomas Freda opened his latest musical comedy on Broadway last night, “The Two-Cor- nered Moon,” featuring those two comedians, Sam Mandelstein and Rachel Malgieri. The Schenkel Twins in their sister-act, Pearl Siegel, the famed dancer, and Belle Horne, the blues singer, are also featured. The chorus includes Evelyn Gockeler, Ada Flohm, Dora Roberti, Ella y pnt % —— Schmaltz, Harold Mauser, Chester Pniewski, Martin Mazich and Benjamin Cohen. Reverend Frederick Minut held services yes- terday in his new church. Johnny Halkowich is a sensation in his flying trapeze act with the Hazmuka and Kazupy Circus. At the fashion prevue held at the Potter Fur- rier Shop, Gertrude Shulman, Evelyn Krich, Janet Meyers, Mary Pryszlak and Lee Bobrow were mannikins. The costumes were designed by Alma Boetsch. At this morning's Professional Convention, physicians were represented by Dr. James Mc- Guire; lawyers by Jerome Ehrlich, Esquire; teachers by Evelyn Anders; nurses by Helen Meyer; and engineers by Albert Aiello. Music at the convention was furnished by Mae Mc- Cance and Doris Kraemer. The finals in the National Golf Tournament will be held tomorrow in Weequahic Park. The contestants for the championship title are Flor- ence Cole, Celia Schwartz, Irene Ferszt, Bernice Liesentritt, Lucille Larson and Anna Bippart. Bessie Ingrassia, Lillian Waldman, Ida Schin- del, Selma Kramer, Vincent Robertello, Paul Bonassi, Donald Lauber and Paul Speranza will represent the United States in the International Bridge Tournament to be held next month in London. Paul Devone won the world heavyweight championship title last night—and now I see that my time is up, so until tomorrow evening at this same time I'll bid you adieu. Foi is a difficult word to comprehend foul the seniors have been looking toward able to say farewell Now become saddened years, we, that time when we would be to our books, our teachers, and our school that the time has arrived we by the thought that we must leave Central. Our sadness becomes even more depressive when we realize that we shall not be able to come daily to our sympathizing teachers with our bag fulls of troubles; that we shall no longer be guided by their wisdom and understanding. With graduation we leave our second home to carve for ourselves a permanent niche in the world. We must do this ourselves. great Our teachers have shown us the way to solve our problems. Our principal, Mr, Wiener, has been a faithful, patient friend, always urging us to do our best, always advising us on how to meet the challenge of the world. Would that it could be possible to have Mr. Wiener and our teachers at hand when we begin to find for our selves. But this cannot be. Therefore, dear Principal and teachers, we want you to know that we deeply appreciate all you have done for us. We shall endeavor to carve such a niche for ourselves in this world, that you will be proud to admit that we are the products of your skillful training. And now, “FAREWELL.” FRANCES EHRENKRANZ. Leaders Wanted Leaders in school activities are neededein Cen tral. It seems that with every graduation class a certain boy or girl graduates around whom a club has grown. After graduation the club dies, and there is no one to assume the work of re organizing. This happens term in and term out. Now in our school we have many boys who can become leaders if they As for the girls, they have proved their capability for leader- ship on more than one occasion. 50 desire. Once upon a time in Central we had approxi- mately forty clubs, which included two debating societies, two dramatic organizations, besides a host of athletic and social aggregations. Where are they today? Are we sinking below the social level of our predecessors? We have three times as many students at Central today as we have had before. This means that there ought to be a greater number of clubs and organizations to promote a friendly feeling among students. It seems the opposite, however. The A. M. students are total strangers to the P. M. students. When a Prvor comes out very few students purchase it. Does this mean that the students are losing their school spirit? If that is the case, it were far better if they left the school and made room for the active school-spirited students. We don't want any sluggard in this school, we haven't any room for them. We need workers. To lose your school spirit, to lose interest in your activities of the school, means that your mentality is affected. Something is wrong with you and I would advise seeing a specialist. You cannot possibly be in your right health if you cannot become interested in your school paper and your school's activities, Our Parting Resolution Familiar Places Remember most kindl long for those on whom we school davs From Principal to Parent Dear Parents: The world is filled with turmoil, trouble and doubts. Your dear ones have been trained in their recognition and taught that success lies not only in achieving what one aims at, but in aiming at what one ought to achieve and ever pressing on to its accom- plishment. For great minds have purposes, others have mere wishes. Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortune, but great minds rise above it. Success in life, therefore, lies in weaving into our personality the idea that life should have a definite world service goal, the road to which must be fortified by character and vision. Witnesses : FRANCES EHRENKRANZ, Sic ROTHSCHILD, ' ESTELLE MEYERS 3115 South Racine Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. April 27, 1945 Dear Bea: Well, after ten years I finally landed myself My boss is the old grouch, Sydney Stearns, who has at last reached his am a job as a secretary. bition to be a boss (not to be a grouch). During my first week working here I tired easily, and therefore made no use of the Night Life that our fair city offers. But now that I have learned the tricks of the trade better, with the kind assist ance of some of the other girls in the office, among them, three of my old school chums, whom you will remember when I tell you who they are: File clerk, Eleanor Jensen; typist, Harriet White; and Katherine Bilous as one of the bookkeepers. One night last week I took in some of the high spots of our Metropolis with Morris Jakel as my escort. We arrived at the Riviera, which I under- stand is managed by Paul Doto. The first per- son I ran across as we were being led to our seats was Sig Rothschild, who is now one of our well-known Chicago bankers, and he was with his wife, Evelyn Rabinow, whom he said he must go back to sit with, as he had left her there some twenty minutes ago when he went to make a telephone call to rving Furst, one of his business associates. After we were shown to our seats, it didn't take long before the waiter, who was William Bulger, came to take our order. When he recog- nized us as being old chums of his, he gave us the whereabouts of some of our other classmates of ten years ago; Basketball Coach in Chicago College, Maso Ryans; Harry Kaslow, Football Coach in the same college; and Theresa DeCle- mente, Lillian Lovler, and Olga Plechy are teachers there also. He told us the good news about Lena Gamba. She is teaching Physical Education at Montclair School for Girls. As the evening progressed the floor show was announced, and the first act was a tango by Helen Bergen and Michael Russo, which was very entertaining. After many other pleasant acts, the finale curtain was raised, and I was astonished to notice that almost the entire com- pany consisted of fellow-Centralites. Among them were: Bernice Nakaneski, Carmela Pizzuti, The- resa Rimassa, Stella Preybylowski, Roselynd Simon, Elizabeth Salowitz, Veronica Mazzullo, Edith Predale, Jean Charnoss, Irene Senk, The- resa Ponzone and Frances Steingard as chorus girls; Dan Tafro and Arthur Silverman as black- faced comedians, Helen Nolan as the petite toe dancer, and Richard West as a juggler supreme. After the entertainment was over, we again started dancing, and as I glanced over toward the orchestra I noticed the leader to be Louis Golomb, and the vocalist who was singing one of the popular songs to our dancing, was Alice Yakel; and the orchestra should really have been called the Central Orchestra because it consisted of all Central graduates, namely: Morris Rood, John Poh, Alvina Beyer, William Shuhala, Boris Schwartz, Nestor Papanestor, William Gim- mings, Paul Budrick, and August_DeSalvo.
