v, 'sf 5 lt Really Pays To Face Life KNOW YOUR angles, smiles Julie PONDERING over a geometric problem or concentrating on a straight seam, Central's stu- dents find life complex at times. The Math- ematics Department offers its students a clear choice: work or flunk. But it isn't quite that severe. Any student, blessed or not withla capacity to grasp math, can get a world of good out of the elementary math courses. Those who discover an aptitude for it can tackle the more advanced work in this great field. PRESSING BUSINESS! Mike Vitello has the fastest iron in Homemaking, if not in town. RIGHT: As ye rip, so shall Kirtland, and geometry's a cinch! Here lnstructor Cooke seems to agree, al- though his smile is somewhat enig- matic fbaffling, that isll Homemaking courses are designed to give students a practical approach to practical prob- lems: how to be efficient in the home. Prob- lems relating to marketing, family harmony, financing, and even child care are available. lt's something to watch big, lumbering boys try to interest nursery age tots in games, but Child Guidance is an important part of living. Other problems, such as financing the years in college, are treated seriously in the classes. ye sew! lt Pays To Plan... DRESS in the making! Pepper Karan- sky gets expert help from lnstructor Margaret Christian as Pepper fits ma- terial to the pattern of a new frock, Making one's clothes is a plus benefit of the Central High course in sewing. If You're Courteous, You Can Live COURTESY on the highways and byways is the key to safety, Central students of Driver Education learn. The course, required of every- one before he graduates, is a valuable start in the right direction. Every driver is a potential killer-because he is driving what too often is a lethal weapon. Our death toll is proof. Students get only theory in the CeHS driver course, the actual driver training having been dropped as an economy measure. Instructor Spoerner does next best, schooling his students in all the road rules and with sometimes start- ling pictures and stories giving them a proper respect for the handling of the modern car. SAFETY measures can help you reach voting age, Driver Training Instructor Harold Spoerner advises Karen Davy, Jan Shaw, and Cheryl Shaf- fer as they study how cars can collide at an intersection. Course includes a number of scare movies of accidents.
