A New Beginning Commencement excer- cises took place on June 2, 1983, at 8:00 p.m. in the Boys' Gymnasium. The seniors were led in al- phabetical order with the senior class president and officers first, from the main building to the gym, by the marshals, the top fifteen ranked juniors. School secretary, Mrs. Teague, has a lot of re- sponsibilities and last- minute arrangements to make. Some of these are setting up the gym, getting the flowers and greenery out, and setting up the platform where the school board and the principals sit. Then, the diplomas are signed and sealed. After all the sen.iors were seated in the gym, the address was given by Dr. Murphy M. Osborne, Jr. He said that teachers and parents are not re- sponsible for your reality in the future, that they can give you things you need to know but you have to put them in order. Overall, he challenged the class of 1983 to learn from their experiences and to accept reality. Awards were presented by Mr. Emerson Heather- ly, diplomas and certifi- cates by Mr. Lee An- drews, assisted by Mr. Laurin Welborn.
