Bison Marchers “spell it out’’ for the crowd with one of their many precision drills. re During this year’s concert season, the Concert Band, composed of Sopho- mores, functioned separately from the Symphonic Band, composed of Juniors and Seniors. Both bands attended the State Contest and held concerts throughout the season. The two bands combined to form the HIGH POINT CENTRAL MARCHING BAND andhigh- lighted half-times at the Bison home games with their various shows. Besides participating in the Band Day Show held in Chapel Hill, the Bison Band also marched in the Shrine Bowl Parade which was held in Charlotte. Linda Honeycutt, Betsy Crouse, and Linda Smith get it together during a rehearsal for the Christmas Concert. 23

STAGE BAND Stage Band: 1st Row, L-R: R. Younger, S. Frazier, M. Harrison, K. Risdon, S. Jensen. 2nd Row, L-R: S. Moore, T. Gray, C. Parker, M. Reams. 3rd Row, L-R: M. Erickson, B. Terrell, S. Lain, D. Wesson, T. Mellage, D. Howard, W. Johnson. Band Director, Mr. David Carter. “Oh, When the Saints Go Marchin’ In!” The ““Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy” is alive and well in the High Point Central Stage Band. The band plays predominantly music from the Big Band Era, reviving such jazz greats as Duke Ellington and Benny Good- man. Band members submit applications to band director, Mr. Carter. He then selects the Stage Band on the basis of playing ability. Only those with special talent make up the High Point Central Stage Band. 24 The Stage Band plays mostly for civic groups such as the Kiwanis Club and the American Businessmen’s Association. The band has also played as entertainment at the Top of the Mart. Each year, the band parti- cipates in a Stage Band convention at a North Caro- lina college or university. This year’s Stage Band also performed as a part of the Bicentennial celebration in Greensboro. Pursed lips and a diaphragm full of air create the sweet sound from these muted trumpets.
