f I 'Q-5:, st at Us the long slender fingers that flash up and down a piano keyboard. These hands and many others with them have molded our future and shaped our destiny. It is up to us to put our hands to the same tasks in the years to come. It will be our hands that will build our homes, defend our country, and establish our world on the basis of a lasting peace. Yet we have scarcely stopped to think about the potentialities of our hands as we go through life day by day. Hardly do we realize that almost everything depends upon our hands and what great things we can do with them. To awake us, as students of High Point High School, to the knowledge of what other hands have done for us, what our hands are doing and how much our future life depends upon our hands, we are presenting to you this copy of your high school annual, the 1951 PEMICAN.

The Background Against Which We Lived in 1951 he background against which we lived in 1950-1951 was character- ized by the doubts and fears OfClO11'1- munist aggressors. Whilcr our parents were listening to the blasting reports from the news commentators about the 38th parallel and evacuation of UN troops in Korea, we entered H.P.l-IS. to resume our studies. Typical of most high schools we were great football enthusiasts and cheered the local team at every game. Qur defeats were taken in stride and we were consoled by the fact that Notre- Dame's thirty-nine game winning streak was halted by Purdue in Qctober. Before the opening of football season while the coach was conditioning the team, photography for the annual was begun. Mr. Schimenti, the photog- rapher, found little difficulty in posing the girls with their short hair and much less attention was required by the boys who wore the popular crew-cut.
