Look around you at the warm, kind, helping hands of our friends, the work-worn hands that have made our homes-our parents, the hands that have helped you since you first learned to write A . . . B . . .C-our teachers. All these hands are exceedingly wonderful. Now raise your eyes to take in your community, the large white-gloved hands of the policeman on the corner, the calloused hands of the mill workers. The hands that serve us daily are those which place the milk on our doorsteps, put the long awaited letter in our mailbox, and take the can of food from the shelf for us. It's amazing how important hands are in our lives. Next raise your head and look about in the world community, the black hands, the yellow hands, the red hands, the scrawny hunger-bitten hands of war-stricken orphans, the delicate, well-manicured, tapering lingers of the more fortunate, the massive hardened hands of the aggressor, that makes a Est, raised in anger, easier than extending it for a handshake. Think of some of the hands that have attracted your attention. They all are the same-four hngers, a thumb, fourteen joints, a palm-but the difference lies in what they are doing. Remember the praying hands in church, clasped hands of lovers, hands waving good-byes, chubby, baby pink hands of the exploring infant, the wrinkled hands of an old woman as she holds clicking knitting-needles, and .. ooking back upon the years we have traversed we, as seniors, stepping onto the roads of destiny, remember all of those individuals who lent us a guiding hand through this sm-all portion of our journey. From the very beginning the familiar hands of ,our parents en- couraged us as we took our first steps in childhood. They were always there-reassuring, never-doubting, unselfish hands, that pointed our way upward and onward. There were the ones that played such a great part in our progress. At the foot of each problem that loomed before us as a gigantic mountain to be crossed, theysstood ,beckoning us to greater and higher peaks. As the years rolled by, we walked side by side with them, stronger and wiser through their interest. We progressed and each new principle given to us by our teachers was consumed as a milestone in our advance. They handed us new worlds of knowledge to conquer and provided us with a thirst for learning. The hands of those we worked with in our Sunday schools and in our churches gave us the guidance and advice that spurred us over the rough places in our course, around-the obstacles that stood in our path. They enriched our souls with the spiritual guidance and counsel that we need to round our characters. We recall the hands of our friends who constantly stood by us in our hour of need, studying beside us in the class rooms, cheering with us at the football games, sharing our fun at parties. They have grown with us, and have gone hand in hand through this present into the future. . The hands of parental love, the hands of education, the hands of spiritual guidance, the hands of a friend-all of these have been in- strumental in making us today what we can become tomorrow. In humble gratitude we would like to dedicate this, our annual, the 1951 PEMICAN, to those hands of parents, teachers, and friends, who willingly contributed a part of themselves to our success-the hands that mold our future and shape our destiny. :.:.Lfsz.:i ..:51-,ik J

f I 'Q-5:, st at Us the long slender fingers that flash up and down a piano keyboard. These hands and many others with them have molded our future and shaped our destiny. It is up to us to put our hands to the same tasks in the years to come. It will be our hands that will build our homes, defend our country, and establish our world on the basis of a lasting peace. Yet we have scarcely stopped to think about the potentialities of our hands as we go through life day by day. Hardly do we realize that almost everything depends upon our hands and what great things we can do with them. To awake us, as students of High Point High School, to the knowledge of what other hands have done for us, what our hands are doing and how much our future life depends upon our hands, we are presenting to you this copy of your high school annual, the 1951 PEMICAN.
