Choir Director, Mrs. Ballengee Trees I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth ' s sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of Robins in her hair: Upon whose bosom snow has lain who intimately lives witii rain. Poems are made by fools like me. But only God can make a tree. Joyce Kilmer FIRST ROW: A. Fisher, E. Patterson, R. Via, B. Warlitner, F. Vess, R. Metz, J. Broughman, D. Ferguson, M. Collins, A. CENTRILIAN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL Low Moor, Virginia Staff Working The newspaper staff works hard to meet the deadline they set in which to get the paper out. Each mem- ber of the staff has a certain job to do but they all pitch in and do any job when the deadline draws close. You ' ll never know how important this deadline is until you ' ve had the privilege of working on the Centtilian. Selling Like Mad These students are selling newspapers and you can see what a job they are having with students yelling, I want one, and pushing and shoving each other with outstretched arms to get theirs so as to set down or stand up and read it. There ' s always half a dozen other heads pearing over their shoulders to see if they can read something that they haven ' t already found out about. This is one of the many projects the junior class under- takes. They try to make this publication every six weeks. The money that is cleared is turned over to the school. 43

Junior Classical League The Central J.C.L. is affiliated with the National Club. It also belongs to the state organization. Anyone who has studied Latin may be a member during high school after once paying his membership dues. The purpose of the club is to create and maintain greater interest in Latin at the national, state, and local levels. Every year the club holds a National Convention, to which all the local clubs are invited to send representatives. The Virginia J. C. L. also has a convention. This year it was held at Waynesboro High School. The Central Club sent Carol McGuire as its representative to this con- vention. Our club meets once a month. The program chairman has a program planned for this meeting which deals with some phase of Roman life or some contribution to the world. During tire December meeting the members of the club made Christmas cards. The club also plans to present a program for assembly. The big event of the year will be the annual spring banquet. 45
