With the end of summer and the opening of school we start our pa- rade. About the middle of the year we look ahead and see the end, thinking, Only four more monthsf, Then we go a little slow- er to make it last the longer. And we keep up our mental arithmetic . . . c'Only another month . . . . only two weeks now. And all at once it's almost summer again, the parade is over, and we wish it had been twice as long. X. .mis Last fall Mr. Bright initiated the workshop plan, and teachers gathered three days early so that they could become better orientated with the educational program, facilities, materials and methods of instruction at Central and avoid the confusion and loss of teaching time associat- ed with making all of the adjustments during the first week of school. Teachers are active not only in the Crook- ston Education Association but also in the Polk County Educational Association, organized to raise educational standards in all of Polk Coun- ty. The faculty are also one hundred per cent members of the Minnesota Education Associa- tion and the National Education Association. The renovated music and home economics departments are visible proof of the activity of the Board of Education and, in days to come, more projects will be undertaken to keep the Crookston schools modern and progressive. Only .wo weeks of school had passed when the Coun- :il presented its version of Cinderella as the gala Homecoming event, one of Central's best. Next on the agenda came helping with the orthopedic clinic, packing boxes for needy families, and providing fun and entertainment through parties. For the first time convocations were held at Central, under the sponsorship of Student Council. These were well received by the student body. In the early spring a banquet was held, and the year ended with the annual service club picnic. above: Marilynn and Kaye patronize S.C. stand. below: Homecoming alumni band at the Grand. Homecoming highlight was the Pirate win over Roseau. Bob Caouette's injury made it a costly victory. The powerful Detroit Lakes team handed the Pirates their first defeat at Detroit Lakes. Crookston triumphed on the rebound over East Grand Forks in a sixty-minute thriller as they cooled East Side's Homecoming. Ram- berg's runs and the team's blocking were a treat to observe. Thief River crushed the Pirates after Ramberg was removed from the game with an injury. Biever tied the score shortly before the injury. The Pirate attack against Red Lake Falls bogged down on a snow-covered field. The game ended 0-0 despite Crookston's seventeen to three first down advantage. Undefeated Bemidji overwhelmed the awe- stricken Pirates in the first half. Central recov- ered in the second half to hold the Lumberjacks to one touchdovsm. The game was one of the most exciting ex- hibitions of tournament basketball ever wit- nessed by district 31 fans. The score was tied eleven times during the game, and the lead changed hands an equal number of times until the last few minutes when the Prowlers stalled to hold on to their slim lead and win the championship. The team had a moderately successful re- cord for the season, winning eleven and losing eleven against the best competition in the area. Central's surprising win over Bemidji and their first encounter with Thief River proved to be the highlight games of the year. RECORD Crookston Opponent 49 . . . Fertile . . . 36 41 . .
