Cen ter' Tips THE Pirate cagers started practice with the determination of leaving a record as impres- sive as that of the football team . . . By the first game Coach Scheela had narrowed his squad to twelve with Mr. Halverson's B squad numbering about the same . . . The season started poorly with a scratch victory over Red Lake . . . three successive defeats by Mclntosh, Grand Forks Central, and East Side . . . Each game showed improvement . . . All led up to the defeat of Thief River . . . It was Willie Morlan's last game against the Prowlers , . . his playing the high-light of the game . . . In a rest from district play, the Pirates defeated Sacred Heart and Ada, and lost a close one to Mclntosh . . . Red Lake again bowed, but at Warren the Pirates were stampeded by a hot Pony quintet . . . After a poor game resulting in defeat by the Aggies, the Pirates rebounded to snatch a game from a strong East Side delegation . . . The boys avenged the Aggie defeat in a return victory, but were inconsistent as a determined Prowler team downed them . . . ln keeping with their inconsistency. the Bucs played their best game against Warren to end the regular season . . . only to have victory snatched away in the last minute by three long shots . . . After a deci- sive victory over Oslo in the preliminaries of the tournament, the Pirates collapsed as Thief River hit the nets for a lopsided win in the semi-finals . . . Warren scrambled over the Pirates in the consolation match . . . East Side went on to dethrone Thief River in an exciting overtime game . . . Until the tournament the Bucs were considered as strong contenders for the titleg thus their season cannot be considered an utter failure . . . Coach Scheela did a fine job for his First year despite the team's tough luck on numerous occasions . . . Captain Simp- son led his team in scoring with 109 points . . . The tournament ended the high school basket- ball careers of six lettermen: Captain Glen Simpson, Calvin Morken, Bill Ericson, Roy Winchester, Bill Morlan, and Keith Thorson . . .
