llUUKS'l'UN, the county seat of Polk County, is beautifully situated on the banks of the Red Lake River and is the only fairly large city in this part of the famous Minnesota Red River Valley. Because of its splendid transporta- tion facilities by buses, trucks, and railroads, it is the natural shipping point for agricultural products. Splendid roads and highways lead into Crookston from all locations in the trade area. 'llhe city has about twelve miles of paved streets. Sixty miles of paved highways lead into the city. JXgriculture is the main industry of this territory with a soil second to none, black loam on clay sub-soil. lt is very fertile and wonderfully productive, and grain and other crops are almost assured. Many of the principal industries are along agricultural lines. The Crookston Milling Company, the Flax Fiber Factory. and numerous other factories as well as a large variety of industrial plants contribute a great deal to the prosperity of the city. A few of these business firms are two large wholesale grocery houses. two creameries, two bottling works, a cement cul- vert factory, and two large machine shops. A corixoration-owned power plant furnishes power and light not only to the city but to most towns within a radius of one hundred miles. A daily and a weekly newspaper supply the news. Crookston is splendidly equipped with schools. and its educational facilities draw many students from even outside its trade area. It is the home of the North- west School of Agriculture, a branch school of the State University. The Crooks- ton Public lligh School, equipped with a very line gymnasium and auditorium. is housed in a splendid, commodious brick building. This high school, together with five grade schools, completes the public school system. ln addition, there are four parochial schools and one business college. Besides these many schools the Red

Ours is a strong' church city with many churches following sixteen clifferent faiths ancl synocls. Finally, Croolcston has two fully equippecl. moclern hospitals. the llethescla and the St. Vincent. Norman ancl Polk counties have joined forces in erecting' at Crookston a fine Sanatorium for tuherculin infectecl patients.
