King Ass't Principal J. Jay Planteen keeps order in the Kingdom. And Arthur and his knighthood Were all one will. and th.ro' that strength The King made a realm and reign'd. Heralding the coming of Arthur to the throne was the proclamation that he had won his first quest-the sacred diploma- from Midland Kingdom. And it was decreed in the year nine- teen hundred and forty-four that J. Arthur Nelson would rule over Centralia. Aided so ably by J. Jay Planteen, known far and wide as Sir Galahad, King Arthur brought fame to the fortress atop the hill. In the words of Sir Arthur: The King- dom of Centralia-may it always flourish with a high standard of scholarship and the opportunity for every race, color, religion and nationality to become acquainted. With the presentation of a pageant en- titled Buy an O-Book sales for the fifty- second volume of the Centralia O-Book began. Early in the fall the nobles of the staff discussed and then voted for a theme for the '58 production-The Court of King Ar- thur. At this time the scribe-in-chief and copy scribe attended a session in the realm of Lincoln to learn more about the success- ful production of yearbooks. The various scribes planned their sec- tions by arranging each page and writing copy. Each scribe was also responsible for setting up a picture schedule. Over 1,100 copies were sold to the sub- jects of Centralia. Leads Hedrick, Bercutt, Dolgoff, Martin, Persell, and McKee prepare for opening night. Ferenec Molnar's The Swan was pre- sented by the Players of Centralia Octobel 23 for students and October 24 for faculty members and parents. Each year the neighboring kingdom of Quivera requests from Central's realm a per- sonal body of protectors for their annual Coronation. This year's fourteen guards, di- vided equally between the King and the Queen, were under the authority of Cdt. Cpt., Sir Bill McDaniel. and Cdt. Maj., Sir Victor Lich, respectively. The uniforms of the King's Hussars were a purple-red color, while those of the Queen's were a brilliant White. A freak incident proved these guards' versatility. Having to change their program at the last practice. the Hussars executed such precision in wedging formations and flanking movements that their last-minute revision was not evident. Intercity competition proved no match for Central's mermen this year, as they won all four of their meets against Prep and Tech. Outstate competition was much more rugged, however. Against these teams the aquamen fared not so well, meeting de- feat at the hands of Lincoln High and Lincoln Northeast, while trouncing Hastings High. The high spot in the state championship was the winning of the 100-yard freestyle crown by sophomore sprinter Rol Wellman. The team finished in fifth place. The Tech Invitational saw Wellman again claim the sprint title while the team as a whole qualified 12 men and finished third. The Eagles ended the season with a 5-3-1 record.
