The Varsity Football team proved to be 1 in the Minneapolis Conference. The first game was one of the most exciting games. It was won in overtime 21-14 over Edison. They ran away with the next game over West. The next game also had to be decided in overtime 6-0 over Henry. During the season they were lead by quarterback Joel Boisjolie. The team produced two All-City football players, Peter Najarian and Roscoe Horne, both on defense. South also did not roll over easily until late in the 3rd quarter when Peter Najarian scored from 3 yards out to break the scoreless tie. They outscored their opponents 161 to 20 in Conference play. Their season was really rolling along until they ran into Columbia Heights when they lost in a really close game 14-13. They finished the season with an 8-1 record. Colleen Foster. The Girls Tennis team had their best year in their history. They had never won more than two games in the Minneapolis Conference, but finished 6-2 in city play with an overall record of 11-8. They took 3rd in the Conference. The team sponsored and won the Pioneer Tennis Tournament by beating St. Paul Harding 6-1. St. Anthony 4-3. Eden Prairie 4-3. Coach Beske says. “The team has improved from last years.
