Throughout the season, the team appeared to enjoy the 4th quarter best, as the Pioneers played stable football through the early stages of each game and then broke things Open in the final quarter. The Pioneer defense was outstanding throughout the season in holding 5 of the 8 opponents to one touchdown or less. To compliment the defense, the offensive unit provided points and thrills with its use of the passing game, triple option, punt returns and field goals. In total, Central ended the season with a 5-3 record, but the true success of the team lies in the fact the Pioneers three defeats were by a total of 20 points. It even seemed to me impersonal and cold--no emotion, no feelings, just thought--and I wondered what it would be like and especially what would its people be like. But now Central does make me feel emotions. Many of them, all good. I feel especially pride and thankfulness. Yes, I feel honored to belong to this school, overflowing with great people and great things. Also I feel proud to be able to share with you the spirit of Central. My thankfulness is big too. It is for all those many people who let me be in their lives. Being a foreigner and therefore strange to all of you did not keep you from giving your friendship even before I had to ask for it. And so suddenly, almost without effort, I was incorporated in your world. Words of care and affection came to me since the first day of school from students, teachers, counselors etc. I will not forget any of you, or any of the wonderful experiences you gave me the chance to be part of Central. And finally, thank you for letting me take a little bit of the spirit of Central back to my country. And even there, in Spain, thousands of miles from here, I will not let it die in my heart. --Alberto Escala AFS STUDENTS CHRIS A D ALBERTO To be uprooted from 16 years life experience in one of the smallest countries of Africa, and suddenly thrust into one of the biggest countries of the world is certainly a rare experience. A common initial experience when visiting new places is to have one’s preconceived ideas ruthlessly swept away by reality, and my first few hours here certainly proved to be no exception. I liked the idea when somebody suggested to me to apply for as AFS scholarship, but fears as to the nature of life in an American school, the response of students to my lack of experience and living in an American family still lurked in the background. Surprisingly these were all the more exaggerated during my three days orientation in New York. You may no doubt now appreciate that my opinion of Central before was radically different from that after. But to have this background and then be greeted by such hospitable people and friendly students and such good teachers is certainly preferable in my opinion to any three days orientation which the AFS provide. I thank you very much for your hospitality and I hope that our link will continue to be strengthened so that such mutual benefit can be shared by many more, both here and in Uganda. --Chris Malwadde SNO-DAZE J KING MARK MIDTDAHL QUEEN MARY MEVISSEN PRINCESS ROBIN SMITH PRINCE HERBERT THOMPSON DUTCHESS ANGIE ERVIN DUKE BENJI LOCKETT Left to right: Mr. MeMoore, Mr. McCoy, Mr. Trammel, Mr. Cummings. ADMINISTRATION LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL More than anything else, a school and its history are made up of people, primarily its students. Central High School has a history of many achievements and a history of many of its students going into the adult world and becoming successful in various endeavors. The student body of '71-72 school year has within it many students who possess qualities that should perpetuate the greatness of Central High School. Central High School should remain a proud school, one that knows that its teachers, parents, community residents, and students are vital components of the school itself. We need to continue to work toward building a school where a single purpose-the provision of quality integrated education for all students—permeates every aspect of the educational day and the school year. — Marvin Trammel 93 oo c o u N s E L O R S F. A special tribute to the cheerleaders who letter once a year but practice and cheer all year long for eight different teams. No one appreciates what cheerleaders do until they miss a game. A special award is theirs for tolerance for the pep fests of 1971-72. The largest sophomore squad ever, added to school spirit by supporting all the sophomore teams. The squads did a good job making up new cheers for the enthusiastic crowds at CHS games, and CHS will miss the enthusiasm and talent of the six seniors. ■- Si- % M-M-M-M-M SENIOR CLASS X MAS PARTY— 1972 Dear Red and Blue We'll sing to you Our song of loyalty And follow you Dear Red and Blue With faith to victory And when in danger Of the foe You'll find us staunch and true With all our might We'll FIGHT.
