DEDICATION uThe final test of a leader is that he instills in other men the conviction and the will to carry on There is one man in particular here at Central with whom we will always associate warm memories. We will remember him as one of the greatest Central Pioneers we have known. He has been an inspiration to all of us who have studied with him and have been coached by him. His high standards and ideals have encouraged us to set our goals equally high. His winning personality and sense of humor draw friends, both faculty and students alike. He can laugh at us and he can laugh with us because of his great understanding of students. We are proud to add his name to the list of those who have been the recipients of this honor in the past. We dedicate our 1963 CENTRALIAN to you, Robert Hoisington. THE CLASS OF 1963 Centralian 1963 ANDERSON, AMES i' l . Biology, Physical Education, Baseball, Assistant Football and Hockey ANDERSON. Cheri Larson, a junior, and her parents, became Virpi’s American family during her stay here, and Elizabeth Holmquist her American cousin. Virpi entered into the life at Central and became a favorite with the students, as shown by the language groups' gift to her of a class ring. In November a special Finnish luncheon was featured as a part of the regular school menu, at which Virpi and her American family were guests. 34 Thanks for the luncheon Our Representative To Germany The American Field Service offers a Summer program, as well as a full year of foreign exchange, thus lending more flexibility of choice for students interested in an experience of this kind. Candidates must be at least sixteen years old by June 30 of the year in which they apply, and be members of the junior class in good standing. They are required to have two years of a foreign language and to meet other high standards of scholarship, health, and personality. Central’s 1962 summer exchange student was Marlin Rekow, who enjoyed several very interesting weeks of study and other activity with the Willie family in Dctoble, Germany. After his return to Central for his senior year he has been most generous about sharing his experiences with others through private conversation, public speeches, and showing of pictures. Our Representatives For Girls’ And Boys’ State Another honor which may come to juniors is to be chosen by their classmates to represent them at Girls and Boys State. Juniors from all over Minnesota are selected to attend this activity held each year on the State Fair grounds and the University of Minnesota campus. Its purpose is to acquaint students with the operation of local, state, and national government by setting up a situation in which they actually participate in various phases of government. Central’s representatives in 1962 were Ruth Stensvaag, Jerry Johnson, and Alan Westcott. Alan, Ruth, Jerry 35 SENIOR LIFE . .. Ever playful seniors?! Only two tests this week kiddies!
