Witdorf, Wodrich BAND Po$$ by Room 400 early any morning, and you are sure to head the strains of band music. Yes, these are the early morning section rehearsals which are so very important in achieving the level of performance for which Central's band is known. Each year the members select a concert master, who is chosen on the basis of leadership and musical ability. This year the honor went to Bill Jackson. The band has certainly added pep and enthusiasm to many of our assemblies. Some members of our band also participated in the pep band. Our band is also versatile, as they proved by their spring concert. Under the very capable leadership of Mr. Miles, it was molded into a fine unit of about sixty members. For our Homecoming Game in the fall, the band was highly appreciated as they entertained the crowds during halftime. Their new routine showed skill and hard work as they rhythmically performed. This year. Central High School has indeed been fortunate to have such a fine band. It is hoped that the bonds of the future can carry on as fine a tradition. 24

Under the guidance of Miss Grosz, the German Club has made its friendly, businesslike activities a byword with the students of Central. Presenting a colorful polka, complete with German band and costumes, and going to see the Obernkirchen Children's Choir were two of the highlights of the year’s activities. Through movies, stage performances, and other functions, the German Club has tried to give its members a clearer picture of German traditions and culture. BOY’S AND GIRL’S STATE.. . Each year. Central juniors have the opportunity to elect representatives to attend Boys' and Girls' State. For the past two years two boys and two girls have been selected to go. Spending a week with representatives from schools all over the state, they not only have a good time; but they learn, by experience, how our local, state, and national governments operate. Pictured are the representatives for this year and last. Harl, Jackton, Ryon, Ric®. Berg, Borgenbring, Mocicjny, S. Carlton. 23

CHOIR When the choir members assembled last fall, they could not realize that this would be their greatest season. Under the very excellent direction of Mr. Schommer, the choir has certainly proved itself one of the best choirs Central has ever had- Singing the Messiah at Christmas-time, performing at outside engagements, presenting assemblies, and entering contests are just a few of the many things the choir has done this year. Members are chosen primarily for the r ability to sing, but a person must also be able to read music and harmonize well with others. Cooperation is a must, for there are often long, grueling hours of practice. Early morning rehearsals are a must, but the rehearsals have been rewarding. This year, for the first time, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are all in one combined choir. Our choir. Officers include Bill Rovick, president; Dave Mortrud, vice-president; Sharon Meixner, secretary, and Joyce Dahlberg, treasurer. Our choir has improved during the past years; and it is looking forward to the coming years as years in wh:ch, by means of music, they con provide enjoyment for the members of our school. 25
