Twenty-seven people made the exciting journel to colorful Mexico. The club, which is open to anyone taking Spanish, has been very active around the school. The first dance of the year, the Fall Fiesta, sponsored by the Spanish Club, was declared a tremendous success by all of the officers—Bill Rovick, president; Diane logon, vice-president; Elaine Axiotis, secretary; and Bruce Birnberg, treasurer. This club, with Mrs. Olson as advisor, is now one of the largest clubs in Central. Sponsoring a Pan American Day, watching slides from the Mexican Caravan, hearing guest speakers from other counties, and, of course, holding the annual Christmas party in the lunchroom, also helped to moke this year one of the best that the Spanish Club has known. Hl-Y The purpose of the Hi-Y is to create, maintain, and extend to the home, the school, and the community the high standards of Christian living. This club’s platform stresses clean scholarship, living, speech, and sportsmanship. The boys are proud of this platform, and they are loyal to the high standards of the club. The only qualification necessary for membership in the club is acceptance of the Hi-Y purpose and an agreement to cooperate with other members in carrying it out. NATIONAL FORENSIC LEAGUE . . . To acquire poise and self-assurance by active participation in public speaking is the primary aim of our National Forensic League. With Mrs. Stewart as faculty advisor and Valjean Amireault as president, the group has done its best to try and fulfill these goals. During the fall the main activity of the league is debate, preceded by discussion. This year’s topic for debate was American Foreign Aid. Spring activities include original oratory, humorous and serious declamation, interpretative reading, and extemporaneous speaking. ROW 1j Pedersen, Amireoolt. Mrs. Stewart, Knight. Becker. Under the guidance of Miss Grosz, the German Club has made its friendly, businesslike activities a byword with the students of Central. Presenting a colorful polka, complete with German band and costumes, and going to see the Obernkirchen Children's Choir were two of the highlights of the year’s activities. Through movies, stage performances, and other functions, the German Club has tried to give its members a clearer picture of German traditions and culture. BOY’S AND GIRL’S STATE.. . Each year. Central juniors have the opportunity to elect representatives to attend Boys' and Girls' State. For the past two years two boys and two girls have been selected to go. Spending a week with representatives from schools all over the state, they not only have a good time; but they learn, by experience, how our local, state, and national governments operate. Pictured are the representatives for this year and last. Harl, Jackton, Ryon, Ric®. Berg, Borgenbring, Mocicjny, S. Carlton. 23
