Student government is an important part of Central High School, and the organization which is responsible for all matters dealing with student government is our Student Council. Under the very capable leadership of Nancy Gilbertson, president, Marilyn Engfer, vice-president, Diane Logan, secretary, Bill Jackson, treasurer, Chuck Glass, sergeant-at-arms, and Miss LaFavor, faculty advisor, this year's council has done much to help make Central a better school to attend. One of the most noteworthy activities of this year was “Snow week. The Student Council worked very hard in planning this week of fun, and the drive and enthusiasm shown by council members spread to other students, and Snow Week was a tremendous success. Other activities included sponsoring the Homecoming Dance, Student Council Day, the selling of bookcovers, pens, and colorful beanies. Each year the council is in charge of sponsoring on assembly and a student government day. On the more serious side of their activities is the sponsoring of the Save the Children's Federation Drive, and the effective, efficient supervision of our student-run lunchroom. Quietly, effectively, the Student Council works for the good of the student body. Truly it is an important and essential organization. 18
