THE SECOND CENTENNIAL CAROLINE BARRON Principal Whatever the exact age of Central may be, no one disputes our proud title, Pioneers. Our early graduates helped to mould the destiny of city, state and nation. Our roster of great men and women is very long and very bright. But long and bright though that that roster is, it would be unimportant without that much longer roster of just plain citizens, the many, many thousands of fine fathers and mothers, of men and women in business, in industry, in the professions, in the armed forces. May students now in Central are the children and grandchildren of Central graduates. All of us have a special pride in our school heritage. All are the descendants of pioneers from many lands and di- verse cultures, welded now into one people through the shared experience of the public school. What of the second Centennial? These are dangerous times say the pessimists, there may not be a second Centennial. Of course these are dangerous times! No period in human history has ever been otherwise than dangerous. Our country and our state were not settled by timid men and women. Minneapolis Central of 2058, whatever its changed appearance, wherever its location, however altered its curriculum, will still be Minneapolis Central in Minnesota, U.S.A. if Central's Pioneers of 1958 carry on in the proud and steadfast spirit which has sustained us to this moment. CAROLINE K. BARRON Principal 8
