DEDICATION . . . We, the Senior Class of 1958, dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Ross Peck. He has been a true and loyal Pioneer at Central since 1920. His teaching career began in 1914, after he graduated from DePauw University in 1912 and Indiana Law School in 1913. He played both football and tennis while he was in college. Before coming to Central he taught at Moorehead, Minnesota; Hoquim, Washington; and Mechanic Arts in St. Paul. In 1827, his grandparents settled on a farm in Indiana across from DePauw. The Peck family has continued living on this land from that date, and Ross and his wife plan to return there after his retirement. At Central, Mr. Peck has taught biology and has acted as faculty athletic manager since 1923. In gratitude for his service and contributions to athletic scholastic life at Central, we dedicate this book to him- ...IN MEMORIAM Tom Whalen, one of our well liked classmates, died on October 18, 1956. All of us could not help but admire Tom for his courage and cheerful spirit. Not even after losing his leg in his losing battle against cancer, did Tom lose his persevering spirit and his quiet hopefulness. v I Doug Mickelson, a member of our senior class, was fatally injured in an automobile accident on October 7, 1957. Doug’s death was a shock to all of us, and the loss was felt by the whole Senior Class. We truly miss his companionship and friendship in the classroom as well as outside of school. 5
