National Forensic League Junior Achievement Speaking contests at other schools and also Student Congresses are only a few of the projects the National Forensic League participates in during the year under the direction of Jenise Schnur, English teacher and Pat Nelson, president. Extemporaneous, oral, and humorous are only a few of the types of speeches the student has to know how to give. One of the ways to get into N.F.L. is to be in Debate and work for the twenty speaking points, which are required for N.F.L. Working on the topic, Resolved: That the Federal Government should guarantee higher education to qualified high school graduates through grants to colleges and universities, for Warren Debate was the biggest affair of the Debate Club. Junior Achievement is organized for the primary purpose of training and education in business. It gives girls and boys experience in producing and selling goods, keeping records, and paying and receiving wages. Each company, sponsored by a local firm in Minneapolis, chooses their officers for the year. They choose a product and a company name, and they decide on wages and commissions. The company starts out the year by selling stock in their company, which will be used for the purchase of raw materials. Through the months they make their products and they sell them. German Club Mimes and Mummers To make money for the German Club was the problem before the group under the leadership of Lorine Grosz. They suddenly received a spontaneous idea to sell mistletoe and holly, which paid large dividends in the end. Singing O Tannenbaus and Stille Nacht in the Christmas Assembly and meetings made interesting by students talking to this group were added attractions. The officers of this group are Galina Melnyt-schenko, president; Susan Willis, vice president; Donna Mae McKeone, secretary; and Chuck Lamb, treasurer. How now brown cow? These were the words heard last fall at the tryouts for Central's drama club. Mimes and Mummers. Heading the crusade for new members were the officers, Toni Hughes, president; Diane Davidson, vice president; Yvonne Morrow, secretary; Galina Melnytschenko, treasurer; and Mrs. Townsend, faculty adviser. It was quite on honor to be selected for this group. A UNESCO play was given to recruit the sale of UNESCO stamps. Hall Monitors Library Monitors Hove you got a pass? is usually what you will hear if you try to wander around the halls during first and second lunch periods. This group, under the direction of Miss Kicher, aids students and teachers by keeping all Pioneers on the first floor until the passing bell rings. The restrooms are kept orderly also by this group. Thanks to them we can maintain a student lunchroom free of the guidance of teachers. Pioneers who give up their study hours to assist Mrs. Brice and Miss La Favor are a great contribution to the library. They not only assist the librarians, they check passes, deliver them to study halls, and help students find books and references they need.
