JANUARY OFFICERS, HONORS AND ADVISERS The ,lanuary class of 1937, under the leadership of Bernard Miars, presidentg Mil- dred Sandberg, vice-presidentg Wiriifred Lofstrand, secretarvg and Thomas Kilhride, treas- urerg and with the aid of the class cabinet. supervision of the class advisers and cooperation of its fellow class-mates. upheld the hne standard of Centralis graduating classes. Its first undertaking, the Homecoming celebration, began with the crowning of the queen, Lorraine Nordquist. bv Lawrence Youngblood. president ofthe Alumni. She was attended by lVlarilvn Roberts and Yirginia Pawlak. The football Qillllt' was held in the afternoon with Central playing Marshall to the enthusiastic cheer of Cage the Cardinalsf' and the alumni dance was held the same evening. The class play, Death Takes A Holiflayfl an unusual undertak- ing for a high school class. was presented ,lanuarv 20, with great success. On Class Day at 2:03 a program was given in the auditorium with Tom Kilbride acting as master of cere- monies. This entertainment was followed by dancing in the gym until 5:00. The class of- ficers headed the Class Cabinet whose work proved very eflicient. The class was well satisfied with its Representative Centralites. At the baccalaureate service held Sunday. January 24. 1937. Reverend David Nelson Beach from the Plymouth Congregational Church addressed the class on The Price of Education. The valedictorian was Marv ,lane Grimm, who spoke on '4Op- portunities Aheadi' at the Commencement exercises. Frieda Johnson, Charlotte Zeglin. and Arnold Howe tied for second highest scholastic honors. These four students led the list of those 2-1 to whom Honor emblems were presented at Commencement exercises by Mr. Jarvis. William Finnegan was awarded the ten dollar prize given by the Minneapolis Star for char- acter. leadership. scholarship, and service. while Marv Jane Grimm won the medal offered bv the Daughters of the American Revolution on similar requisites. The Bauseh and Lomb Science Award was presented to Leonard Page for outstanding work in natural science. Miss Nickerson and Miss Nutter were the able advisers of the class, supervised by Mr. Rohde. The Hall of Fame has again opened its doors to unveil to Central students the portraits of the ten Hhighlightsw of the June 737 class-6'The Representa- tive Centralitesf' Outstanding throughout their Central careers, it is only a small honor we pay them in hanging their portraits in our Hall of Fame. In the first frame we find Jeanne LeVesco1te as our class vice-president, member of Stu- dent Council, Class Cabinet, class day chairmai, vice-president of Girl Reserves, president of Botany Club, and member of Girls, Club, G. A. A., French Club and the CENTRALIAN staff. ln the second frame we hnd Annabelle Lee. We see in her portrait our class secretary, presi- dent of Girl Reserves, member of National Hmor Society, Class Cabinet, Student Council, G. A. A. board, Girls' Club, French Club, Quill and Scroll, CENTRALIAN staff, school editor of the News and winner of an athletic letter. ln the middle frame appears Elinor Sandberg, chairman of girls, dress in our Class Cabinet, member of Girls' Club, Commercial Club, G. A. A., treasurer of Girl Reserves, and winnzr of an athletic letter with four athletic stars. Mary Phelps is found in the fourth frame, as a member of the Class Cabinet, Girls' Club cabinet, secretary of C. C. C., Girl Reserves, G. A. A., Botany Club, Commercial Club, Mimes and Mummers, and winner of an athleiic letter. The last portrait is of Delores Peter- son, president of Girls, Club, member of Student Council, Girl Reserves, French Club, Botany Club, Mimes and Mummers, Commercial Club. and winner of an athletic letter. Delores also received a lead in the class play. ln the lower tier we find our gentlemen of distinction. The first frame for our boys dis- closes John Strate, president of the class, presi lent of Hi-Y, Gopher Chapter, president of MCB Club and member of Class Cabinet and Student Council. John also starred in many sports, Football 735, '36, Basketball '35, 736, 737, Golf '36, '37, and All City Center '36 in Football. ln the second frame we show you Robert Gerber, treasurer of the class, member of Class Cabi- net. Student Council, Band, Gopher Chapter, Hi-Y, Mimes and Murnmers and the track team. ln the center frame is Glenn Petersen. a member of the National Honor Society, HCM Club, and CENTRALIAN Sports Editor. Glenn was on t'ie basketball squad '35, 7236, 737. Robert Grono is found in the fourth portrait, he was a member of C Club, excelled in such sports as Football 735, 736, Basketball 735, 736, 737, and Baseball '35. '36, 737. The last portrait is of Richard Raiter, secretary and treasurer of HC Club. Dick is another star in the athletic world, Football 735. '36, 737, Basketball 735. 736, 737, and Baseball TES. 736, 737. JUNE OFFICERS, HONORS AND ADVISERS In January, 1937, the June class was organized into a group under special class gov- ernment and class ofhcers. John Strate was elected president, Jeanne LeVesconte vice-presi- dent, Annabelle Lee secretary, and Bob Gerber treasurer. A more competent set of leaders could not have been chosen, for they directed the activities of the class graciously and effec- tively, with the supervision of the class advisers. Cooperation was characteristic of the June class and the element to which it attributed its successful management of senior affairs. The lirst undertaking was College Day on March 17. 1937, with members of the class cabinet serving as hosts and hostesses to the represeniatives from the various colleges. This day was devoted to stimulating interest in further education by providing an opportunity for stu- dents to confer with college representatives and to gain information concerning their schools. 'liwentv-eight colleges and vocational schools from Minnesota and neighboring states were represented. The Representative Centralites composed of Five girls and five boys were elected by the class early in the year. On May 21, 1937, the class play. hliaddy, the Next Best Thingf' was presented to an appreciative audience. It was ably coached by Miss Crosz. Class Day, held Tuesday, June 3, 1937, began in the auditorium where entertainment was provided from 2:30 to 4200. At this time dancing began in the gym and continued until 6:00. On June 6, 1937, at 3:00 the Baccalaureate Services began in the auditorium with Dr. J. A. O. Stub of Central Lutheran Church as guest speaker. The Commencement Exercises were held on June 10, 1937, at 3:00 P. M. Speeches were given by Laurine Kirchner and Cordon Moe who tied with a perfect average for the highest scholastic honor, Valedictorian. Mr. Jarvis presented these two and thirty-eight other members of the National Honor Society with school emblems. The other address was given by the winner of the Gale Prize Essay. A member of the Board of Education presented each graduate with his diploma. Mr. Rohde acted as chief adviser for the class with the aseistance of Miss Lobdell, Miss Thorvilson. and Miss Reed.
