CENTRAL HIGH SCHGCDL The history of Central High School is the story of the growth and progress of the city of Minne- apolis itself. The first building, located on the site of the present City Hall and Court House, signi- fied the desire of Minneapolis pioneers to give their young people as good an education as was then possible. When the city boundaries were ex- tended, the people decided to erect a new build- ing. It was erected in 1878 and was occupied until the present building was completed in 1913. Today Old Centraln has been con- demned and it will be replaced by the new Girls' Vocational High School. As the city grew larger, it was found that one school was inade- quate to fill the needs of the increasing popula- tion, other high schools were built.
