CLEARLY 1 IN OUR CLASS Pegasus 1985-86 Central High School Macon, Georgia hen people talk about “a classic” or something “classical” they may be referring to music, or architecture, or literature. Whatever the case however, classic is defined as “serving as a standard of excellence” or “authoritative”, rather than “new” or “experimental”. In a unique way Central High School serves as that standard in Macon, Georgia. Central has the distinct honor of being among a select few high schools statewide awarded as a school of excellence. This is standing proof that “We are clearly 1 in our class.” STUDENT LIFE d FADS AND FASHION ..12 SPORTS 18 CLASSES AND CLUBS. 54 SENIORS 96 UNDERCLASSMEN ..114 ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY 158 ADVERTISEMENTS ..172 CONTENTS '?o o--= oo Ss c_ °° ) = n wo = =| o.§ a=] + J = 3 Ne ee a ways — all attention on task. No wonder we produce excellence! A student’s life at Central is filled with a variety of activi- ties. Cramming last minute studies for next period’s test is something all individuals can relate to. Whether it is a “ 1” performance at halftime or sneaking a quick bubble or laugh at half-class, all of these contribute to the “classic” times at Central high we shared dur- ing the year. Will Davidson, Cab Baldwin, Janice Lee, and a mysterious young lady wearing sunglasses, all take time out between classes to wait or talk to friends and maybe just to have some good ole’ fun. Classic moments are ones that are unforgettable. Day-to-day routines such as changing classes and waiting in the lunch line are moments that we will always remember. Top performances on the football field lift our days out of the routine into exceptional moments that we will never forget. When the last bell rings, stu- dents relax in their own unique ways — whether it’s ringing up a friend or taking a few mo- ments to reflect on how life is treating them, all students en- joy their free time after school. Wy 1 me we ae DISTINGUISHED CHEVADLET Fads and fashions are one of the most important aspects of a student’s school life. They show individual style as well as the styles popular today. Through the years, the style of clothes has changed dramatically. Each year has its own style, but many styles of pre- vious years have repeated themselves. The clothing worn by students at Central High School display a variety of these styles. Some of the most popular girls’ apparel this year includes Forenza sportswear, paisley tops and pants, long and knee length skirts, tapestry prints, and over-sized shirts and sweaters. Accessories play a major role as well. These included his her Swatch watches, rhinestone jewelry, and bangle bracelets. The guys have their own style as well. They prefer rugby and plaid shirts worn with faded jeans. Howev- er, dress pants are still on the same. As always, hair styles play a major part in fashion. Shaved sides and dyed hair are extremely popular with both guys and girls. The hair is worn loosely with less shape and styling. Fads and fashions are always changing and will continue to do so in the future. Central will always be up to date with the “classic” styles of today and tomor- row. As you can well see, there is clearly an as- sortment of fashion at Central. Gail Fleming, upper left, sports the varsity sweater look, while Glen Bennet, top right, exemplifies the “prep” look with his plaid button-down shirt and campside shoes. Above, Shannon Heath wears a paisley blouse — not to mention her above-the-knee print skirt! Tina Marshall pictured with her, also carries the paisley look into her jacket which she teams with solid black pants and high top shoes. To the right, Bradley Gaston shows off his “wedge” haircut and blue jean jacket; both are defi- nitely looks of the 80’s. Clockwise: Marcia Gibbs models a sophisticated look in her black jer - sey dress topped with a print overblouse which projects a classic, yet casual appearance. Oran Wilder, dressed in pleated pants paired with matching suspenders, relaxes for awhile on the lawn. Tauquilla Belcher shows us how vivid colors combine for a dressy three piece look which exudes confidence. Darrell Finney observes life with open interest as he stands smartly wearing his classic plaid shirt. Todd Faircloth gives his jacket and oxford shirt sporty relief with this year's hottest fad, the Swatch. _... THAT CLASSIC LOOK A potpouri of good times at Central High School is dis- played in various ways; win- ning the homecoming is some- thing a very few of us are hon- ored with, but goofing off with friends is something we all do. After placing second in both the sub-region and region tournaments, the Char- gers qualified for state. Beating Tift County, 59 to 56, in the first round, the team rolled into the semifinals only to suffer a heart-breaking one point loss to Sprayberry, 40 to 41, in the final second. During the season she squad was ranked in the top three in Middle Georgia, and players Eric Reid, Kelvin Rutland, and Anthony Haynes were among Middle Georgia’s Top Twenty boys. The team finished the year with a more than impressive 20-8 record. Needless to say, this was definitely a “classic” year for the varsity group. The average athlete is not willing to pay the price day in and day out work that wrestling does. This year seemed to take more of this than the typical year. The 1985-86 wrestling year is composed of many wres- tlers who had never wrestled competitively. Despite of this lack of experience the team pulled through and the individ- ual wrestlers made considerable progress throughout the season. A few of the more notable wrestlers were: Marty Randolph 112 Ib. class, Torrance Clark 119 lb. class, Rickly Plagge 138 lb. class, Mike Leverett 145 lb. class, Willie Johnson 155 lb. class, Jerry Johnson 167 lb. class, Joe Boyd 185 lb. class, and Precell Brooks heavyweight class. Mike Leverett is a third year wrestler and entered the area tournament as the number one seed. Mike will be our best chance of placing in the state wrestling tournament. With the return of many experienced wrestlers, the out- look for next year looks very promising.
