Jordon Northeast Hardaway Southwest — ee, a OO US!.lUCcCOllUlUCUMlC CS Baker Warner Robins 23 Kendrick 0 Big Orange Nails Northside Central started its season on a happy note, defeating the North- side Eagles 36-6. Although the crowd was small, the fans that did come got a good vie wing of the “charger spirit” that would carry through for many victories in the upcoming season. a St nr ates = PES Fn ae OID Steiner, Chargers Teach Baldwin Coach Steiner and the Big Orange taught Baldwin a good les- son in the course I of the school of hard knocks: how to be beaten. Central sailed through the game b eating Baldwin 42-6 in a non- region triumph at Porter Stadium. The game was highlighted by ex- cellent passing by DeMichael, great rushing by Haugabrooks and more of Turner’s perfect kicking. The de- fense made the game a perfect victory. Big Orange Skins Peach Mud was the order of the day as the Chargers outslid and outswam the Peach Co. team in a rain-soaked victory in Fort Valley. Central took the game, 33-0, with Peach Co. fail- ing to come up with anything that even resembled a scoring drive. Chargers Jinx Jordon Central went on to make their record 4-0, with a difficult 21-6 vic- tory over Jordon. The non-region game was the most difficult win of the season, but, in Coach Steiner’s words, “I’m always happy to win.” Central Routs Raiders The Big Orange “showed their stuff” at this game both offensively and defensively, defeating the Northeast Raiders by a fantastic goal-line stand in the last two min- utes of the game, in which North- east, within the two yard line for five plays, was unable to score against the Central defense. A Northeast cheerleader before the game said, “Central might score”’. She was seen eating her words at 10:30 that night. Central Hammers Hardaway The Big Orange found itself be- hind for the first time of the season when Hardaway scored on _ the fourth play of the game. The Big Orange machine came back with three TD’s to take the game 21-7, and remain undefeated. Hardaway was limited to only one first down, showing the amazing powers of Central’s defense. Central Captures City Crown The defense worked wonders again, stopping Southwest and giving Central its fifth straight city title in 28-0 victory over the Patriots. Coach Steiner, after the defense limited the Patriots to minus 2] yards rushing, said, “I’m very proud of our defense. They all did a good job and a shutout always makes it nice.” In a game unexcelled in excite- ment by any other game this year, Central beat Baker 14-6 before a 4,500 homecoming crowd. Central was down 6-0 at the half, giving a sour note to homecoming festivi- ties, but the Chargers left the stadi- um after the game with another victory, and a crowd of keyed-up fans ready for a good dance. _ oo 900... HOME Sg) visrrofP DOWN TOCO OTR Demon’s End Central Hopes The game began with a snide announcer saying, “Welcome to Demon Country” and for fans look- ing for the Central cheering section, this statement was obvious. Warner Robins, surrounded by their own fans who refused to give seats to the Chargers, gave Central their first regular season loss in three years. Although Central scored first, they lost the game 23-7. Season Ends on High Note Central began anew what could be another long winning streak, bouncing back from their loss to Warner Robins to soundly defeat Kendrick, 35-0. The few fans who saw the game saw evidence that Central had a team this year that had a lot of go-power and deter- mination. Steiner said, “I thought they did a good job after taking a licking last week.” L-R: Coach Roy McWilliams, Coach Tommy Mixon, Head Coach Godfrey Steiner, Coach John Reynolds, Coach Gene Brodie. | - oS: Central Charger Coaches = | B Team Coach Doc Kirksey Ramon DeMichiel ay. a Charles Haugabrook Oa rary | John Andrews Jerome Johson Jimmy Lewis Harry Cobert Milton Mathis Rusty Schlottman Jerome Francis Joe Hicks Mac Slover eT) Jack Cox Willie Wadley Reggie Jackson ae oA ‘se Fa A oF WOLTTP Re TAY rN TF Jimmy Herndon Howard Wilson Gary Leverette Alan Addleton Dwight Jackson Derrick Benns Ogden Hansford ap ih — Richard Hendley Dennis Barbare Hezekiah Jackson ae OG TUTOAT . 2 at ; oe | x a a ah CENTRAL BASKETBALL Game Schedule Central Baker 6: Central 4 Northside Central Spencer Central 101 ... .Peach Co.
