My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. If you have good ears, loud voices, Students visiting schools in other towns return more im What's t I y | pa than lt with our good behavior, good food, and and plenty of spirit (and we all do), a pep rally is the place attractive lunchroom, for you. MR. J..C. SORRELLS THE MAN AND THE TEACHER The first thing that a student learns about Mr. Sorrells is that he is a quiet and gentle man, a “gentleman” in the true sense of the word; for in his quietness there is strength, and in his gentleness a true concern for others. In his years of service at Lanier Mr. Sorrells has taught mathematics algebra, plane ge- ometry, trigonometry, and solid geometry. His former students, many of them now parents of the boys he teaches today, hold him in high regard, remembering him as a wise and good teacher who somehow manages to inspire each student, the brilliant, the slow, the scholar, and the dullard, to work to the highest level of his capabilities. Throughout the years of his teaching Mr. Sorrells has per- formed many extra duties with the same quiet ease he dis- plays in the classroom. His vigilance in the lunchroom keeps it an orderly, pleasant place. His work as adviser for the annual for twenty-seven years, from 1932 to 1959, represents a tremendous contribution of time, patience, and energy, but Mr. Sorrells worked so unobtrusively and efficiently that many of the students and faculty were scarcely aware of his efforts. He has never sought praise or recognition, for he is that rare person who works only for the satisfaction of a job well done. The seniors of 1960 salute you, Mr. Sorrells, and dedicate this yearbook to you with gratitude and affection. Benjamin Franklin’s secret of success: “I will speak ill of no man, and speak all the good I know of everybody.” We hope that the years you have spent at Lanier have prepared you to meet the challenges of the various paths you will encounter and that they will guide you in the choices which you will make. If you have learned to think before you choose and to win or lose without de- stroying your sense of values, you are becoming a responsible adult. The future is unlimited for each of you. It will be what you make it. Remember that you gain in proportion to what you give to the world and your fellow man. Set your goals wisely and work hard. You will attain the success and the satisfaction for which you strive. Principal LANIER M SGT. CHARLES H. BADY S.F.C. JOSEPH R. BAUGH MR. M. L. BRANNEN History MR. LANDON H.
