Since Coach Weaver took over the Central girls two years ago, they have 41 wins and 7 losses to their credit, a record of which Central High is proud, During this time she has won the respect and esteem of the students and the community. Three of the finest forwards in the county - Nancy McLaurin, Laura Culbreth, and Ruth Williams - have accounted for 1, 552 points in one season of play for a 65, 5 average per game. Nancy earned, and quite deservingly too, a place on the All-County team for two consecutive years prior to this season, and Laura won her place on the honor team in '56 and '57, Ruth and Laura won the Ruritan award in '55 and '56, respectively, for the best-all-round player, and Ruth won her place on the All-County team in '57, Lucy Brown, an all-county guard for three consecutive years, Lettie Brown, an all-county guard twice, and Io Ann Matthews, a newcomer to the game, displayed superb guarding throughout the season holding their opponents to 1, 047 points for a 43, 7 average. This trio of guards has dominated the backboard and in doing so, has accounted for numerous rebounds, making a marked contribution to each win, Because of the sportsmanship they have shown on and off the court and because of their ability to turn out a good game consistently, we salute these girls! We are highly honored to have them wear our colors. Coach Weaver gives last- minute instructions to her -- powerful starting line-up, '56 and '57 Champions Ruth Williams leaves the floor to cap 2 more points. 529 Coach Doris Weaver Captain Lucy Brown Co-captain Lettie Lou Brown The Winning Handclaspl 'K ff' .
