Remembering--our year as sub freshmen' in the new school with 95 students on roll, talking out of turn and doing everything wrong--at least wrong as far as Mrs. Townsend and Mr. Williford saw lt--as we smile and think what a wonderful time we had. Our freshman year was most exciting because we were all looking forward to changing classes and leaming to be in class on time. We then realized we had but four more struggling years of school. The girls pestered Mrs. Matthews while the boys were troubling Mrs. Farrlor, our home room teachers. We progressed and finally were known as Sophomores with Mr. Jolmson in charge of the girls and Mr. Boyd the boys. That year was filled with a lot of hard work, but we all enjoyed it. At last! Upperclassmenl Now we began to be recognized as someone. With Miss Hunt and Mrs. Adams as our advisors we found ourselves with the big responsibility of giving a Junior and Senior Banquet. Everyone worked hard, but at the same time enjoyed it. It had a Mexican Theme and everyone wore red Mexican hats. This big event came off May 14, 1954.. On the night of graduation all of us felt the next year would come and go too quickly--the year when we as Seniors would march proudly, if a little sadly, down the aisles to receive our diplomas. At last the awaited year came and we were proud Seniors with Mrs. Mclamb as our advisor. We were very ambitious Seniors and had most of our little tasks done before the first semester ended, such as selecting our class officers, and ordering our class rings. We were thrilled beyond speaking when we were told we could have an annual. It is the first annual Central has had in about five years. We then started to work and chose our annual staff. As the end of the year approaches with only 43 out of 95 who started high school together, we are looking forward to giving our Senior Play and our long-awaited trip to Washington. Yet, when we think of the future date when we will be leaving, our hearts become a trifle sad until we realize we will always have the memories of all the wonderful times we have had here to call our own. As we stroll around the campus, we see many familiar sights that bring back memories of our beloved Alma Mater. Here comes Linda Mclellan who is now the educational director at Hay Street Methodist Church in F ayetteville. with her are Darlene Williams and Julia Edge. Darlene is now the private secretary of Mr. Seavy Holmes, who is assistant manager of the Sealtest Milk Co. of Durham, while Julia is the Art Director at the Famous School of Art in New York. Newland Blackman and Billy Strickland just came in. Newland, buyer for Johnson Cotton Company of Dunn, N. C. , is telling everyone about the new John Deere Tractors of which he has just received a slupment. Billy, local poultryman, has developeda chicken with a detachable head. This eliminates chopping blocks anu axes. We wonder when Ann Edwards and Janie Bell Carter will arrive. We have been told that they have accepted positions as Home Economics teachers at Campbell College. Mrs. Floyd Tyndall, the former Lessie May Register, sent word that she might be unable to attend because of the sickness of her second child. What's that noise that we hear? Why it's Billy Bain, racing with his Model T. Fad. We wonder if it will ever wear out. As we assembled in the auditorium we met Byrd Lupo, who tells us of the position she has accepted as Dean of Women at Woman's College in Greensboro. Mrs. Jerry Adams, the former Margaret Poulos, has just flown in from Germany to be with us today at our reunion and to see how time has changed her pals, Janie, Elaine McLaurin and Hilda Autry. Janie tells us that she is now holding a position as secretary to the F. B. I. , while Elaine and Milton Horne, Hilda and Archie McGill are happily married and live in Stedman with their families. We read in the Fayetteville Observer, of which Carroll Beard is Editor, that Stedman opened the season with a win over Hope Mills. Coach Wallace Jernigan was well satisfied with the performance of his team. Here come Wallace and Carroll now. From the happy look on Wallace's face, they evidently must be talking about the game. What's that we hear Jimmy Mclaurin telling? Could it be of his recent promotion as manager of Clark's Sporting Goods in Fayetteville? Gail McLaurin's dream of travel has become a reality since she became the wife of a famous Band Leader who plays in the United States and Europe. We will probably hear more about her travels from Gail, because here she comes with Joyce McMillan. After completing her business course at East Carolina, Joyce became secretary to a prominent business man, and, in the process of a year, married her boss. Tommy Weeks and Rupert Bland really look distinguished in their uniforms. They have been telling us of some of their experiences in the Army. Tommy tells us that he is planning to make the Army his career. We wish him luck. Looking out the window we see Eugene Mason, Samuel Strickland, and Oscar Huggins who have just arrived. It seems the M 81. S Used Car Co. of Dunn is doing a thriving businessg also, Oscar has turned his little store into a super supermarket. Mrs. Euland Baker and Mrs. Jerry Lucas, former Misses Mary Smith and Elsie I-louse, have just arrived with their families and are telling their classmates of their happy marriages. we hear that Robert McCormick did not follow in his father's footsteps as a Geometry teacher but joined the Air Force and Commands Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He flew up to be at our Reunion and he looks very dignified in his blue General's uniform. As we walk by Mary Fuller Autry and Merle l-leath we hear Mary 'Fuller telling of the mischievous boys in her fifth grade class at District 47 school. Merle is extending an invitation to all her friends to visit in Longhom, Texas at the Heath Beauty Salon of which she is proud owner. Barbara Strickland and Bonnie Jones seem very happy with the work that Grey do. They are telling Shirley McCorquada1e, who has just been promoted as head Nurse at Rex, that they work as matrons for the Home for the Aged in Asheville. The cool climate seems to agree with them. Leslie Fisher and Charles Eason, the noted Scientists of our class, have just arrived. It has been rumored that their latest experiment is making White Lightning' without the use of com. Mrs. Jack Barefoot and Mrs. Howard Maxwell, the former Misses Edna Joyce Brewer and Pat Weeks, are very happy in their chosen careers as housewife and mother. We were afraid that they might not make it to our reunion, but we are very glad that they could come. Betty Lois McLaurln has been telling Pennie Godwin, who is now Assistant Manager of S.H. Kress and Co. , of the possibilities of advancement in her vocation as librarian at the Public Library in Payette ville. l-lere's Billy Lucas, late as usual, but he has a good reason since he's become proud owner of the Dunn-Erwin Skating Rink. He invites all the students of Central Hi to come visit his new Rink., It seems everyone has arrived. Noi l spoke too soon. Here comes Elma Mae Bain with Frances Eason and lettie Grey Caison. After finishing high school Elma moved to Missouri to live with her sister Frances is now married to Mr. Roy Norris, while Lettie Grey is living in wade with her daughter Phyllis. And so, ten years have passed since we were all together as one happy family in school. Although it is with sadness that we remlnisce, we are proud of the progress that we have made. We shall accept these changes as another stepping stone in life, for this is what we learned when we were together--that life separates but does not withhold memories.
