f X 1, v 4 A A Letter From Mr. Harper June 1970 Dear Fellow Centralites , This has been a great yearn- great in many respects. It marks our last year as a group entity. This is our last graduating class. I am reminded of the French story of La Derniere Classen be- fore'Germany once took over Alsace and Lorraine. That story was on a sad note. Ours is on a happy note, for we have a proud past. This location was the first to provide academic education in tlfe city of Auburn when it was yet a village. This will be a last location within the city, for our academic future is in Fleming. This year is also a commencement. Many of us will look forward to wider horizons in the new school with greater advantages. We will look back upon a family individualityw as a pleasant re- membrance propelling us. into a greater future. This is our shining hour - our finest yearbook - a time of pride. Like an astronomical nova our school no longer will be seen as such, but also like the n'ova will still be present in an eternal orbit with a past filled with bright memories, pride of accomplishments and springboard to the future. For me, as for you, this has been one of the great things in life. Goodbye, Central, and may God be with your futures so that you may always face the sunrise with the gentle wind to your back. Your sincere friend, ' MKMMZ Millard R. Harter Principal

Time is such an integral part of our daily living. We rush about, so concerned with a minute by minute timetable that we fail to appreciate some of the most important events in our lives. When we finally pause for a breath, the moment is past, the magic has gone. We may reminisce for an in- stant, but in looking back, all that is left is a fleeting shadow and a faint whisper . . . Eventually this memory dies. ln the torrential flood of events the past slips into virtual oblivion. We say, We must live for the present - what's past is past and what's to come will come. But, alas, all too soon the present is past and the future present . . And we go on this way into infinity. In dedicating a yearbook the time element must be considered, for a yearbook is nothing more than a record of events associated with our youth, and a whole lifetime stretches before youth . . . a lifetime of todays, tomorrows and yesterdays. Therefore, it is with due respect to all that we, the editors, dedicate this final edition of Mercury to the past, present and future - the infinite passage of time. Ann Bunker Dave Sargent
