F0+0'I'BHll 1951 The Central High football season opened on September 14, with a thrilling victory over Father Ryan. The Golden Tornado trailed Ryan for 44 minutes and 16 seconds and then drove 71 yards to pull its season opener out of the fire, 7 to 6. Freddie Hart and Bruce Wilson swung into action in the fourth period to spark Central's winning touchdown drive. A 27 yard pass from Wfilson to Clyde Ferguson helped set up the score which came from the 4 yard line on a plunge by Hart. Hart then went through the line for the extra point. On Friday September 21, Portlandls Purple Panthers won a 34 to 0 victory over the Central Tornados. Portland made 14 first downs to Central,s S. Clyde Ferguson provided Central with its golden chance in the third quarter by taking a fumble out of the air and racing 65 yards for che touchdown that tied the score. Freddie Hart then went over left tackle for the winning extra point. With time running out in the half Central took over on downs on its own 35 yard line and then ad- vanced the ball 60 yards in Five plays. Hart took a pitclzout from Booty Wilson and went over from the five. Wilson then sneaked over for the extra point. Before 3,000 fans on the Tornado field, Isaac Litton defeated a spirited Central team 33 to 12. - , , if Central's stubborn line plus the offensive work oi Freddie Hart gave Litton more than they expected in the first half. Clyde Ferguson set up Central's First touchdown with a 42 yard punt return. Hart powered to the six yard line and ll penalty moved the ball to the one. After a ten yard loss Hart plunged OVCF. On Friday October 12 the DuPont Bulldogs spoiled Central's homecoming with 11 38 to 0 score. The two teams picked up eleven first downs each.
