At the top of Gail's achievements is her work as a member of the debate team. to which she contributed much time and effort. She was outstanding in her work as As- sistant Editor of the Maroon and White, Friendship Secretary, Hi- Tri President, and was a very peppy cheerleader during the football season. The pep. enthusi- asm and bright smile of Iulie will long be remembered by her friends in Central. ELAINE FANTLE proved her- self very efficient as seen by her accomplishments as Record Editor. Elaine also served as Spanish Club President, and was very active in many of Central's other activities such as Pep Club, Friendship Club and Red Cross. Gwbml MARY SILIZER won many friends with her sparkling per- sonality and friendly attitude to- ward her classmates. All of us at the Castle will look back with pleas- ure to the ti.mes when she ap- peared as a member of these organizations. RUTH IDZAL was one of the hardest working girls in her class. Ruth was active in many organizations such as Student Council, Orchestra, Latin Club, Inner Circle, I.R.C., A.A.C., and Pep Club, and she was a very pe-ppy cheerleader. Grace is best known for the fine iob she did as President of Friendship Club. She also reigned as the happy Friendship Sweetheart, an honor which she highly de- served for her accomplishments in Friendship Club. BERLAND SMITH, a popular member of his class, served as Class Treasurer and was a member of Student Council, Choir, and A.A.C. Berland is best known for his athletic abil- ity. Central was made proud when Ber set the state rec- ord in the low hurdle on a curved track. Along with Ber- land's outstanding work in track, he also made high achievements in Football. ANDREW KARANTINOS has a smile and personality which has won him many friends here at Central. Elected as Class Vice-President, Andy proved his ability and popularity. His active work on Student Council and in Radio Club was very helpful to those organizations. Andy also served as an effi- cient president oi Red Cross. We feel that he should be especially commended for the excellent manner in which he litted him- self into the lite of Central after transferring from a high school in Greece. SANDRA STEVENS was well liked by her classmates for her pleasing smile and warm per- sonality. After the candidates were introduced at an assembly, an election was held in the auditorium during lunch periods and before and after school. The new procedure proved to be quite successful as many interested students turned out to vote. The first of a series oi proiects tak- en on by the new governing body was that of purchasing magazines for the benefit of visitors and waiting stu- dents in the Dean's office. At September's meet- ing a skit was presented which explained the purpose and activities of the club. Goodies, which has become a tradi- tional Friendship by-word for food, were served at the close of the meeting. Other Friendship proiects of the year included a Home- coming float. the crowning of a Friendship Sweetheart, and a May Queen Assembly. Behind this entertainment is a great deal of work and practice by the Band, which meets every mom- ing first period in the Annex and at various other times. This large Band also includes the Dixieland Band and the Dance Band which performs at the dances and other places upon invitation. The band also presents concerts for the public. These concerts show that the members put a great deal ot effort into the performance. The students have much lun preparing for the con- certs and entertainment as the audiences do listening to them. The orchestra is also part of the Com- mencement and Baccalaureate service. Part of their program also consists of the orchestra con- cert which was combined with the choir this year. These performances are the results of much effort and practice under the direction of Mr. Harold Buck. This group practices first period in the annex and also at various extra practices so that the concerts can be appreciated more. For the first time, Central's orchestra was in- vited to Cedar Falls State Teacher's College this year. Two aerials accounted tor Linco1n's third quarter scoring. In the last quarter Dick Pech pounced on a Lincoln fumble in the end zone for Cen- tral's only score. blocked the kick! After a 85 year drive Ron Barnes passed live yards to Paul Vanderwiel for another tally. Sioux Falls Cathedral scored from the four yard line in the quarter and tied the score in the fourth quarter on a plunge from the one yard line. Central compiled 14 first downs to Cathed.ral's 13. The Little Maroon bacldield looked particu- larly good in the Hrst half. Gwinn! I4 Gwbwl -2 Siam Qalla Zffaiamyian 41 ,yeelan 1.2 Although the Little Maroons fell before the onslaught of a strong Sioux Falls Washing- ton team, Central fans were pleased with two hard eamed touchdowns. A fifty-six yard run by Berland Smith and a fifty-nine yard drive in ten plays was climaxed by Vince Smith, whose touchdown gave Central the honor of being the third team to score against undefeated Sioux Falls this season. Sioux Falls Washington went on to finish the season and share honors with East as the best two teams in Siouxland. After tying Sioux Falls Cathedral. the Little Maroon eleven lost to their city rivals, the Heelan High Cmsaders, to the tune of 12-2. Both Cnisader touchdowns were made on the only long runs of the game. Berland and Vince Smith both looked good with impres- sive runs. but were never able to go all the way. Our schedule comprised teams such as LeMars, East. Council Bluffs, Heelan. Leeds and our own Varsity Reserves. Outstanding players were lay Perry, Keith Towns, Don Huff and Stan Schindler who were incidentally lost to the varsity squad at mid-year. Duncan Rave and Larry King copped both places in the half mile, after which Brad Iones, Tun Dove.
