7 mile Relay V Smith, Dam, Klopstad, Yates Daniels, B. Smith. yfkfi' 880-yard Relay Team: Baker Gardiner, Maroons Sweep Holstein Relays The Central cindermen, running their first out- door meet of the season, completely outclassed 17 other Class A schools and went on to win the Hol- stein relays. The Hilltoppers amassed 44 points, 17 more than their nearest opponent, Fort Dodge. Ber Smith, showing last year's form, took first in both hurdles and anchored the winning mile relay team of Klopstad, Cambcll, Gardiner, and Smith. Although the Centralites actually placed first in only one relay, they finished either second or third in all the others. The first meet showed great promise from Coach Young's tracksters. Although the Hilltoppers ran against squads which already had at least one meet under their belt, the Maroons still managed to place in two events at the State Indoor Meet held in Iowa City a week earlier. Al Daniels and Berland Smith each took thirds in the 50 yard dash and 60 yard low hur- dles, respectively. Hilltoppers Top the Tomahawks Central High's thinclads defended its Class A championship with ease as they won their 3rd consecutive meet, The Hilltop- pers outdistanced 21 other Class A high schools by totaling 58 points, 33 more than 2nd place Onawa. Unstoppable Bei' Smith continued to shine as he swept the hurdles. In the 180 low hur- dles, he broke his own record by winging over the track in the time of 20.2 seconds, Al Daniels tied the old 100 yard dash record of 10.2, but still could only finish second, to give some idea of the competition. Carlton Tronvold and Ken Hendrick- son did well for Central in the weights, as they each placed, Tronvold in 2 events. In the relays, the Hilltoppers took a sec- ond in every relay run at the meet.
