llentral lligh St-hool adds one more year to its illustrious past. ln more than half a eentury ol ex- istenee. our sehool has UlZ1tlffllI'0rQ'- ress from a small. rented huilding to one ol' the largest high schools in the state. Among the most pie- turesque lruildings in this seetion ol' the country. it maintains tht- honor and dignity at-quired long hefore many of tht- present day sehools were plans on tht- arehi- teet's desk. The original Ntfastleu lvuilding uas eompleted. alter months ol' uorli. in lll92. The sehool hoard had seleeted the location. The site was an entire lrloek luetween Ne- hraska and ,lar-kson Streets. and Twelfth and 'lihirteenth Streets. Paving: southi overlooking the heart ol' the eitfs husiness seetion. the lruilding stood on the top of a hill. -Ks one entered the south door. he sais a wide. spaeious hall with stairways at either end. as- eending to the upper lloor. The selection and arrangement of stat- uary and pietures in this main hall were a delight to visitors. Sioux liityans grew aeeustomed to its medieval silhouette against the tipieal miwdestern har-liground. Still the sehool was not large enough to house all its xarious de- partments. and manx elasses were held in nearlvy lblllltllllgli bo. in lfllfi. a new ning nas added larger than the oltl Castle huild- ing itselli. Many ehanges were made. 'lille assemlvlx' was moved lrom the third lloor to the main lloor. A neu. large lunehroom was installed on tht- fourth lloor ultieh non also houses t'UIIlll16'l'- eial elasses. lnereased enrollment was the reason for tk-ntral's undergoing another modernization in lOf5ll. The lnlilding nas given a general reeonditioning. and new features were introdueed. Today this structure stands a monument to the people xthose lalrors were applied to lvuild it. 119351 Castles-at the sound of the word one's mind immediately he- gins to draw pictures of gallant knights in armor and ladies with billowing skirts and jewels. Every- one dreams of these castles with their handsome knights and beau- tiful ladies. hilt we of Central donit need to dream. We have our Castle! Long has Central been known far and wide as the hflastle on tht- Hill! It is no wonder then that we have chosen The Castle as the theme for the 1016 Nlaroon and White. The streamlined ladies and the modern knights of our school dif- fer in many ways from those in the days of chivalry, but they up- hold the ideals of the knights and ladies of old by carrying on Cen- tral's fine reputation. honor. and traditions. Our castle. like castles of old. contains great halls. There is the uaudw where our castle life is cen- tered. It is in this great hall that the knights and ladies of Central congregate at different times of the day. The banquet hall. better known as the lunchroom. where students leisurelyt?l eat their lunches, is familiar to everyone. The music halls are filled with ac- tivity, and strains of modern bal- lads echo throughout the castle the whole day. The action in the gym can be compared to the thrill- ing tournaments that were enjoyed by knights and ladies of old. We are proud of our Castle and believe that we are justified for this feeling. We are proud that Central's very structure suggests the beauty. d i g n i t y . wisdom. warmth, and happiness which it carries within its walls. We are proud of the name that The Castlei' has made for itself. and proud of the knowledge that its good name will continually im- prove in the future.
