MISS KATHERINE MOURNING MR. SCHMIDT MISS MOURNING Miss Mourning, clean of girls, holds one of the most important positions in Central. Not only does she have charge of girls' absenteeism and tardiness, but teaches Eng- lish and is advisor of the Inner Circle and Friendship clubs. Outside of school time her favorite hobby is writing and reading poetry, and also collecting antiques. Miss Mourning is a fond reader of Kipling and says his works are unsurpassable. In the modern field of poetry, Don Blanding is her choice. Her favorite radio programs come under such a list as The Firestone Hour , One Mans Familyn. Information Please , and John Charles Thomas . Miss Mourning says the most unusual book she has read is The Robe by Lloyd Douglas. One of the things that impresses her most at Central is the traditional Christmas pageant. Although she is busy every hour of the school day. Miss Mourning always has the time and is eager and willing to help girls with what- ever problems arise i-n their school life. The 'iAnnual takes pride in introducing Centrals newest faculty member, Mr, Schmidt, the assistant principal. Before coming to 'iThe Castle on the Hill . he was a speech teacher at East High School for nine years: and previous to that he was a vocational guidance director in the Junior High Schools. NVith so much ability as an instructor and a director. he is a valuable addition to Cen- tral's faculty and we are fortunate to have him as a member. Instead of thinking of his work only in terms of writ- ing excuses and tartly slips for the boys, he would rather think of it as a job which will help students to make the decisions that will make their living happier for them. He stated that he likes Central and enjoys the type of work he is doing. His teaching talents, however. are not confined to Central. He also instructs the Air Cadets at Morningside College. His hobby is remodeling old furniture and using it in his home. XVe want to take this opportunity to extend to Mr. Schmidt the best of luck and success in his career here at Central. IOHN SVHMIIYI
