If any one factor could be designated as more responsible than any other. it would be the work of Superintendent I K f ' Clark. For some time prior to his coming ' i 'i'1 a rather disorganized state of affairs had 4 existed, and it was no small taslt that ll ' i confronted him at the beginning of his L -. term here. That he has been successful K ii and that he has brought about' a con- ? V dition of public confidence in the school A , 0- system is attested to by the recent voting A 'ii X of almost S200,000 additional school l li revenue for school improvements during the il n ' K A A',i ' coming year, As the year has progressed i, there has come about a gradual recognition L--rf Q' ' - -l on the part of the school patrons that a ri M- G. CLARK systematic program looking forward to the fi Sumimendml betterment of local educational conditions 1 was being carried through and that plans for the larger good were being formulated. The favorable expression in the board election of late is both gratifying and reassuring to the superintendent and L means a distinct boon in carrying out the plans already made. 2 1 , . i. Q , . Mr Clark has brought to bear upon his vsorlt a wide experience as a student and teacher and a highly successful period as a public school administrator During the year the grade school work has been made more interesting and thorough going by the introduction of a unified Expression course extending through the eight grades and including in its scope a recaprtulatron of the history of the human race In addition to this the night school work has been broadened to include the industrial arts and commercial branches and instruction to foreigners in the rudi ments of the English language The high school course has also been changed to a certain extent and the system now permits a number of electives on the part of the student With these features of the work of the present year as evtcl nce and with his genial and forceful personality as another asset we feel safe in predicting a bright future for Sioux City Schools as long as he shall remain at the helm aa: one ' ,,j
