UP THE STAIRWAY TO THE STARS If I should die before I awake Leave all behind, nothing I'll take, Only memories of days gone by Some beautiful, Shameful, and yetl Can never regret anything in my life All of my trials, and tribulations Are my donations of life to give. fl crawl on the ground With no holds barred, There are my burdens I bare, Vly knees I have scared. Some folks look only as far as the eye can see, Xlo matter what one says or thinks of me, live my life the way I choose l'm sure you're doing the same thing too. You can let it be said thatl do say Xlo matter how near or far away Thatl may be, That is my choice, so don't judge me. When you are well, and go to church I am sick and can't do as much With a decent thought, a tender touch You have no room for judging or such. So, should I die before I awake Leaving all behind - nothing I shall take The Lord giveth and he taketh away, If not for me, then for God's sake Please, don'tJudge me. IVIrs. Lena Towns A Parent WONDER WHEN WE'LL EAT Black lonely corner, Cold wooden floor, Sunday paper everywhere, Wonder when we'll eat? Stove's been cold for days, Pans dirty inthe sink Stomach cramping and queasy, Wonder when we'll eat? Georgie's sick with something, Dad's been gone for days, IVlomma drank up all the check, Wonder when we'll eat? Don't like my new folks, Sis and brothers miles away, lVlomma's in jail for ninety days, Wonder when we'll eat? Alfred Johnson

CREATIVE COR ER SENIORS OF '74 CLASS PRIDE Bewildered and indifferent, We entered these doors, Seeking our new identities, To conquer new shores. Labeled as sloppies, This title to disprove By ascending to juniors, We accomplished this move. When the way was rough, We stuck to the grind. Assistance and tolerance, We always could find. With senior year completed, We depart through life's door, With pride in our Blackness, Our class of nineteen-seventy four! Alfred Johnson NOW THEY CALL US BLACK Rusted chains and shackles, g Ebony bellies bulged with birth They used to call us Ne-groes, Now they call us Black. House niggers and field niggers, Separated by hair and skin They used to call us Ne-groes, Now they call us Black. High-yellow crust and shining black curl Favclrs from the master plenty, They used to call us Nig-ger, Now they call us Black. Progress we have known by now, Position and prestige we attain, They used to call us Neg-roes, Now they call us Black! Alfred Johnson 110 CLASS POEIVI Now we must say farewell To Central, teachers, counselers, and friends. For their kindness, thoughtfulness, and understanding. Graduation always brings tears, But, they are both sad and joyous tears. For 12 years we have been climbing the ladder. And now we've reach its' peak. Although we may never see each other mam. We will always cherish the memories, education, and dignity Central gave us. Farewell faculty, and friends For now we must part But, we part in search of education For there's much more knowledge to be obtained, and higher goals we must reach. Farewell Central. Khoda L. Stone CLASS POENl We are leaving Central as of today, We have fulfilled our learning in every way. We thank the teachers for their time and trust, We thank our parents for sending us. We love you Central - all the way we do To us, you are the number one school. As we leave you, we would like to say, Of all our lives this is the most valuable day . We thank everyone in everyway Who made it possible for us to see this day. Ruth Wilson
