People walking past Central may wonder at the number of Central students leaving school at various times during the day. These students are for the most part members of Centralis D.C.E. program. The Diversified Cooperative Education program enables students 'ito earn while they learni' and is designed to provide training for occupations and to prepare students for these choices, both in the classroom and in the community. Those on this program attend classes for a half day with one class hour devoted to specific study related to the program and a half day spent on the job. Central students wanting to enroll in this program must meet qualifications set by the school and employer. Central's coordinator is lWr. Eugene Glod and it is his responsibility to correlate the knowledge and training of the students with the needs of the employer. NVith the aid of a coordinator, the D.C.E. program offers training from a morticianls assistant to a tire builder. Another activity which attracts students to the D.C.E. program is the Co-op Club. Its various projects have pro- moted a better understanding of the students, training in the school and state. An annual Employer-Employee Banquet is held to foster a better and more personal spirit between the employer, student and school. In the past year, all students on the D.C.E. program held a city-wide car wash and also held a dance in the Washington High School gymnasium. Central by its support of this program guided youth to a complete training in citizenship and service and has en- couraged the development of leadership and scholarship.
