Band members practice for excellence l L The flash and sparkle of a marching band is captured by the precision and show of its drum major ond major- ettes. They are L. Hipskind, S. Burkhalter, C. Osterhold, J. Sholly, C. Sholly, N. Huff, P. Skinner, and A. Anthony, kneeling. Every home football game finds the band pre- pared with a new and exciting half-time presenta- tion. Mony hours are spent by Mr. Singleton and Mr. Ford creating, plotting, and executing these shows. ln January each year, many band members enter the city and district solo and ensemble con- tests. lf they are eligible they may travel to Indiana- polis for the state-wide competition. Only l5O!o of this group receives the first rating , and each year Central has more than its share. The spring finds the concert band busy working on its selected com- positions for the annual band contest. Three num- bers are selected and practiced until perfection is reached. Each member does his best to attain that coveted first for the band. The work and practice of the entire concert season is directed toward pleas- ing the students and public at the annual Pops Concert in May. Many hours of toil are put into this concert so that others may enjoy the fun and music provided.
