Vyur Liue5 une 10, 1955 Though brief as compared with the centuries of time, this year was important because it was another step in the preparation of ourselves, as individuals, to assume a position in the world. In this year, we have gained knowledge and we have become more qualified to deal with the problems of life. The year has contained many happy experiences: We all danced on clouds at the prom; we cheered and urged our teams on to victory at the games; we sat with awe and expectancy at the wonderful dramatic productions; we were calmed by the serene music of our own musical groups — yes, we have had a full year, and a very valuable one. The most renowned in- structor, EXPERIENCE, has tutored us in many golden lessons. This has also been another year in the life of our school. Being the mother of South Bend schools, it once contained the office of the Superintendent of Schools. Central was a very small schoolhouse and has grown into a very large structure. This is Centrals eighty-fifth year as a high school. As we stroll leisurely down the beloved halls, we observe many changes that have taken place during the year. There is the attractive redecoration of many parts of the school, the varnishing of the stage floor, the new piano in the glee club room, and many others. In these many new improvements, our school is growing in a new and better way and has attained a place in the educational foundation of our nation. This, another year in our lives, has also been another year in the life of our nation. From the battle of Valley Forge through the familiar battles of Korea, our men have paid the great price of blood, sweat, and tears for our freedom. We are greatly indebted to them for their efforts and it is our task to preserve the priceless heritage they have won for us. The time is drawing near when we will have to carry on the affairs of our nation .... In this year of our lives we have prepared ourselves so that we might continue to make our nation a cit- adel of democracy with liberty and justice for all.

All of us gained some- thing no one can take away. -Attteli cs This year we were very proud of our teams; proud of their good sportsmanship, their integrity, their will to win, and their won-lost records. 3. cultu This year they were probably much the same as in other years, but because they were ours — not our older brothers, sisters, ' or friends ' — each was someone very special to us. emors This is the year which we have been anticipating — the conclusion of one stage and the beginning of another . . . the saying of good-bye to fond memories and dreaming and planning for the future. Ulnae rclc addmen These were the years of growing up — getting to know one another and making new friends. Yes, these were the years of learning to be good citizens.
