DEDICATION FOR more than thirty years Francis S. Sanford taught at Central, which school he fondly called The Home of the South Bend Bearsf' He was respected by faculty members and students alike. In his classes every- thing was put on a competitive basis. The students didn't have tests, just friendly competitions. The first one to complete a difficult experiment Was certain to be re- warded by a tap on the old bell on the laboratory table. By Walking around the desks, being certain that students were making no drastic mistakes, giving a Word of cheer to everyone Mr. Sanford made chemistry one of the most interesting sub- jects in the school. - 1 -Photo by ciariton FRANCIS S. SANFORD It has been just a little over a year since Mr. Sanford passed away. The students who knew him will never forget him. It seems that his spirit Will linger forever in the laboratory which he made his second home. Because of his love for Central and her students, and in recognition of his long period of loyal service to our school, We, the students of Central, Wish to dedicate this yearbook to the memory of Francis S. Sanford. On Nov. 25, 1953 a memorial assembly was held in the Central auditorium for Mr. Sanford. At that time David Novvacki, '53, presented to the school on behalf of Mr. Sanford's chemistry students the plaque shown opposite. This plaque is to hang in the chemistry laboratory.
