The Interlude Valedictory By Katherine Crum packer On this night as we are reaching the highest goal in our school life, it is only natural that we should look back over the past few years which can now be seen so plainly while the future is yet hidden. They have been pleasant years. We have worked hard, played hard — and we have gained much. We have spent a great deal of energy seeking for the things we want; often we have failed, but each small trouble or failure has been the spur to lead us on to greater success. Tonight our feeling of happiness in our success thus far overshadows the memories of the various struggles that we met along the way. Now, as we look at all the familiar faces of our friends here, it is hard to think of the parting we must make. The past is secure and happy. We are inexperienced, but there must be oppor- tunities ahead. We have lived in a period of great changes and new opportunities. Our earliest remembrances are of the Great War, and it is in the unsettled world since then that we have grown up. Nothing has long remained still. We believe that it is the duty of those who have grown up with these developments to go out and lend at least their youthful enthusiasm toward aiding these con ' ditions in the world. So we will go forth to work and play, as we have worked and played here; with the strong hope and firm resolve that you, our parents, our teachers, and our friends, shall someday be proud of the class of nineteen hundred and thirty-one. It is with this resolve that we now bid farewell to you, our classmates and our friends.
