The Interlude Salvitatory By Frances Hopkins Members of the faculty, parents, and friends, Welcome: Tonight it seems entirely fitting that you, who have guided, loved, and inspired us, should be here. Tonight of all nights you should be with us, for it is a turning point in our lives. It is a beginning and an ending: the beginning of a new life, far more vast in extent than we have ever known before; the end of a joyful, happy school life. This evening we are facing life. We look forth with the eagerness, the hopefulness of youth. For three years we of the class of 1931 have worked together, meetin g success with pleasure and failure with courage. This evening we ex- perience a great happiness, for at least we are able to show you what we have accomplished. This is the culmination of the many days in school — hard days to be sure, but eventful days. So to you, who are in a large measure re- sponsible for our success, in the name of the class of 1931, I extend A hearty welcome!

The Interlude Class History SCENE: Summer home. Time: Night of Commencement. Characters: Guy McMichael Albert Graf Robert Frash Richard Gardner Leonard Radeckj. Marshall Hewitt Muriel Stapp Janet Jac son Catherine McColl Bernice Koehler Muriel Levy Margaret Gish (Music and sounds of dancing are heard within the house. Janet and Al are seated on swing.) Janet: Isn ' t it grand and cool out here? Al: You bet! It scarcely seems possible that we ' ve graduated, does it? (The rest enter, couple by couple laughing) . M. Stapp: (Walking to chair.) How do you like being a graduate? I feet sorta lost! Guy: So far so good. Marshall: (To Pete.) Who ' d ever think to see you now that you were the little girl in half socks that walked in here three years ago? Pete: I can ' t say you were any Beau Ideal in our Soph stunt night. Cate: But wasn ' t Turnie cute in the Sopho- more play? Leonard: That was Do You Believe in Luck? , wasn ' t it? Dic : Remember our Soph Spring Sprint? We actually stayed out till 11:00 o ' clock. Bernice: Yes, that was the time Milt Ries was President and led the grand march. Bob: How beautiful thou lookest, my fair lady. Cate: Flatterer! M. Levy: Beautiful lady! What does that remind you of? (Tune of Beautiful Lady heard. Hoppy, Wardell, Donna Belle). Al: (Stumbling). Pete: You ' re not as graceful as those dancers. You look more like Gilbert Horst when he fell down at our Junior Dance. Jan: I ' ll never forget decorating for that Goblins ' Gambol . We had orange and black streamers every place there was room for any. Guy: I can ' t say I care for that minuet or whatever it is they ' re playing. Let ' s get some jazz. Bernie: How funny! Jazz and Minuet . I guess Rae Hargrave put over the jazz part in our Junior play. Dic : Yes, and Bob here was the handsome hero. Bob: I ' d almost forgotten. Marsh (Acting silly) and now Ladies and Gentlemen — M. Levy: Say, you can ' t make any better speech than George Turner could in the play, The Youngest . Sappy: Doesn ' t it seem ages ago that we gave our Junior-S enior Ex? Leonard: Talking about making speeches — I think Tom Lizzi is the one for that. He certainly kept everyone roaring at our Senior Prom. That was a wonderful time. AL Stapp: Didn ' t we have a gorgeous time, tho 7 M. Levy: Bernice, that ' s the prettiest neck- lace you have on. Bernice: Do you like it? Thanks. I bought that at Senior Wyman ' s Day. Which all goes to show that we really can be business like. Marshall: Why, of course, with Guy as our President and such splendid co-operation from the remainder of the class — M. Levy: (Interrupting) Well, now, we-ve heard enough. We ' ll have to admit, tho, that we were pretty successful. Pete: Speaking of the cute bracelet, look at the darling one Cate has. Did you get it for a graduation present Santa Claus certainly was good to you. Cate: You don ' t know your history ' . This isn ' t the time of year for Santa. Anyway, there ' s something more in Chnstmass that that. Guy: I guess we all found that out in Unto the Least of These. Jan: That play gave me the queerest feeling. It just left me rather weak. Al: I ' ll bet you didn ' t feel half as weak as I did after our Senior April Shower Dance. Dici : Already that seems like a long time ago and yet it was only a little over a month ago. Guy: Yes, it was only thirty-eight days ago. Leonard: Only 3S ! That was our Senior play. That was the last big thing our class put over. Marshall: We not only displayed talent in that but I think we showed some in our last assembly — our Senior Musicale. COMMITTEE Janet Jac son Ch.
