During the year we lost: Mike Alcorn, Dennis Allen,Terrance Brown, Timothy Brown, Darell Bubb, Merle Jud, Monte Leenerts, Dean Stevens, and Roger Weatherby. We gained: Betty Bigley, Jerry Callison, and David Gallamore. Our sponsors were Miss Steiner and Mr. Parker. In the fall of 1970, we once again appeared as jovial Juniors. During the year we lost: Donna Loeschen, Daryl Mansperger, Pam Davis, Peggy Smith, and Marie Sparrow. We gained: Mike Alcorn, Jane Click, Diana Lopez Deborah Tarr, Peggy Brown, and David Buss. We presented our class play They Run In Our Family under the’ direction of Mrs. Wilper. Under the successful completion of a dance at the beginning of the year, our Valentines Dance, and selling candy we were able to present the Seniors with a prom, Fantasy Under The Sea at Central. Our sponsors were Mrs. Creek, Mrs. Wilper, and Mr. Stevens. Returning in the year of 1971, as Sophisticated Seniors we lost: Mike Alcorn, Unetta Allison, Bill Bose, Alan Bruns, Ed Curley, and Debbie Tarr. We gained: David Buss, Kent Snider, and Dale Shank. Our Class officers were: President-Bob Brady; Vice-President-Bill Ausmus; Secretary-Sandy Weems; Treasurer-Sherry West; Reporter-Donna Tenhouse; Student Council Representatives-Cheryl Dralle, Stan Frese, and Greg Johnson. Activities of the year consisted of our Homecoming Celebration and Dance, our Christmas Dance, the Junior-Senior Prom, Senior Play, our Senior Trip to Six Flags, Baccalaureate, and Commencement. Our sponsors were Coach Brickman and Mr. Witty. The world is at our feet not but we shall never forget Central and some of the best years of our lives. Sponsored by Mr. Wartick and Mr. Powers, the council, this year, has twenty-one members. Officers for the year were: President-Jane Albers; Vice-President-M. D. Ideus; Secretary-Susan Moore; and, Treasurer-Esther Musick. The council started a campaigne for patriotism in the early part of the school year. The slogan of the campaigne was: Pledge yourself to something great--America. During the middle of the year, the Student Council participated in the annual March of Dimes campaigne. The main drive was held at the home basketball game between Central and Unity. It proved to be another successful year for the march. Of course, the highlight of the year was Student Council Week. The members were sold as slaves to the student body, taught classes for a day, participated in a student exchange, sponsored psycadelic day and the Student Council dance. The banquet was held at the Blackhawk Restaurant in Jacksonville. The year was ended with the election of the new officers, along with other members from various clubs and organizations, for the coming year. DAIRY MART CLAYTON 45 HAMILTON FUNERAL HOME NEWSPAPER STAFF This was the second year for the reorganization of the newspaper staff since 1968. The first action taken by the staff this year was to rename the paper, Panther Power. The staff kept busy collecting articles, running polls, interviewing people, and with general production of the papers. Approximately 400 Panther Powers were put out each month. The newspaper staff took out time for a birthday party in honor of the sponsor, Mr. Wartick, Another highlight for the year was a banquet in May. For the past two years the paper was edited by Sandy Weems and Bill Ausmus. But each and every member put in time, patience, and effort to put out an extraordinary paper. To end the activities of the year, the girls participated in a track meet May 10. JOE S SHOE REPAIR CAMP POINT FHA The Home Ec. classes and F,H.A. members sponsor a STYLE SHOW each year. Every student in Home Economics classes are asked to participate. The 8th grade and Freshman classes sew a casual garment, Sophomores and Juniors a dress-up garment and Seniors a tailored garment. December 17 through Januarv 3 the FFA participated in a Pest Contest. Winners for the Section FFA Foundarion Awards at Griggsville were: M. D. On April 13 the FFA held their annual Banquet at Central. The meal was served by the members making it a complete success. COLONIAL CLEANERS CAMP POINT INDUSTRIAL ARTS OFFICERS: Pres. Jerry Callison, V. Pres.: Dan Yarian, Secretary: Kevin Georges, Treas.: Mike Foster. The Industrial Education Department at Central strives to meet the Pre-Vocational requirements of its students. The major areas of endeavor are Drafting which includes, General Drafting, Mechanical Drawing, and Architectural Drafting. Electricity, both theory and practical application. Metal working, both bench metal and heat treatment and machine. Woodworking which includes all the hand and machine processes that are available in the shop. Safety is stressed and practiced at all times. MILLER TRUE VALUE HARDWARE AND FURNITURE SCIENCE CLUB The Science Club experienced an active and successful year. Sponsored by Miss Steiner and Mr. Witty, the club's officers for 1971-72 were: President-Chuck Royalty; Vice President-Jill Beckett; Secretary-Jane Albers’; Treasurer-Merry Miller; Student Council Representative-Eric Coggeshal. Various members of the club entered the Illinois Junior Academy of Science district competition. Those who placed were: Jill Beckett-2nd; Jane Albers- 1st; and, John Gunther- 1st. The two first place winners advanced to state competition in May. VIOLA RIGOR M.F.A. INSURANCE ART CLUB The Art Club has been very active this year. For the Christmas season, the Art Club creatively decorated the hallway windows. Expo '72, sponsored by the club was the main project of the year. At this event, everyone's talents were displayed for the public. The Art Club wishes to thank Miss Bailey for the help she has given them. COUCH’S CONOCO SERVICE CLAYTON DRAMA CLUB During the year the Drama Club participated in many contest. These include: Voice of Democracy, Creative Writings Award, Optimist's Essay Contest, REA Essay Contest, Exchange Club Essay, IHSA Speech Contests (District and Sectional) and Spoon River Annual Speech Festival. We won first place Individual Events IHSA District Contest 1 070 The officers for the year were: President- Pam Bradshaw, Vice-president- Peggy Tenhouse, Secretary- Susan Stein, -Treasure-Debbie Tenhouse, Reporter- Jane Carstens, Student Council Representative- Mary Susan March. Work projects for the club in the form of public performances and programs for various community organizations has varied. Some of these include: Santa's Toy Shop (annual), Variety Show (annual), assemblies for the seventh and eighth grades and for the high school. The club closed its year of activities with an evening on the town, for members and guests, dinner and plays. Each year the Drama Club awards a pin to those students of Central who earn points in essay and speech competition. I. H. S. A. Speech Contestants Girls Ensemble PALOMA ELEVATOR NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The National Honor Society was engaged in several activities during the past school year. The officers were: Pres.-Esther Musick, V. Pres. -Alice Bastert, Sec. -Marsha Tomlinson, Treas. -Mary Susan March, Rep. - Jane Albers. The members sold mums for Homecoming this year. On November 24, five seniors were inducted into the society. They were: Ginger Smith, Kristy Albers, Rhonda Pieper, Bill Ausmus, and Chuck Royalty. A bake sale was held March 18 at Osborne's store in Golden to raise money. The second induction for new members was held March 27. On April 11a District Conference was held at the Blackhawk in Jacksonville. Carol Sharrow was elected recording secretary at this meeting. To close the year, a tea was held May 4 for the members, their parents, and the teachers. W.A. SHANHOLTZER INSURANCE AGENCY COATSBURG FUTURE TEACHERS The 1971-72 FTA is in its second year of existence. It is composed of members from all four classes with Miss Wallem and Miss Baily as sponsors. The FTA was organized to promote a better understanding of teaching and also to arouse interest in students about teaching as a career. The officers for this year were: President-Bill Ausmus; Vice -President-Susan Moore; Secretary-Jill Hull; Treasurer-Dena Padgett; Student Council Representative-Sandy Weems; Historian-Sherry West. Central's FTA was quite active this year. Some of their activities including hosting the district FTA convention. Central was visited by a number of students from surrounding schools and an enjoyable day for all was experienced. Many dinners were attended during the year for the various chapters of the FTA organization. Near the close of the school year the members were given the chance to participate in a visitation to grade schools, high schools, and special ed centers around the area. Each members observed and obtained new ways and ideas in teaching. COGGESHALL CONSTRUCTION CO. CLAYTON GERMAN CLUB The goals of the German Club are to perpetuate and cultivate a deeper understanding of the German people and their heritage. During the year, club members have enjoyed many fine activities. Some of these activities includ ed a dance in September, a Christmas party, a lecture and slide presentation in the Central auditorium by Mr. Donald Schroeder, and an April fest. The German Club officers for the school year 1971-72, were: President-Denny Mohrman; Vice-President-Ginger Smith; Secretary Treasurer-Alice Bastert; and, Reporter-Mike McMahon. The Usher's Club of Central High School was organized with this thought in mind. However, visiting fans from other schools are not alone in praising our ushers. Local patrons as well praise our ushers for their friendly smiles and gracious manners. 1971-72 HOMECOMING Events of the 1971-72 Homecoming started with the lighting of the bonfire on the night of Thursday, September 30. Led by the cheerleaders, the four classes competed for the coveted spirit stick. As in the past, the Senior class won it. The Junior and Seniors girls played each other in a game of flag football which was enjoyed by all the spectators. The game ended in a tie between the two teams. On the following Friday night, Central played Warsaw in their Homecoming football game. Central emerged victorious with a score of 14-0. The King, Queen, and their court were announced at the game. They were: King- Stan Frese; Queen-Marlene Allen; 1st Attendents-Julie Bruns and Bob Brady; and, 2nd Atten-dents-Cheryl Dralle and Dick Beckett. King and Queen Saturday night, the 4-Way Street played for the Homecoming dance. The highlight of the dance was the coronation of the new King and Queen by the King and Queen from the past year, Cindy Houston and Ronnie Pieper. A Will ann a Way was a humorus story about an old uncle who made some silly conditions in his will for his family to follow in order for them to get their part of his inheritence after he died. The mixed-up way things happened provided fun and entertainment for the audience, as well as the kids putting it on. A very special THANKS from the class to Mrs. Wilper who put in her time, work, and patience. We only hope she enjoyed us as much as we enjoyed her. You did a great job! 64 65 PROM 72 The Junior-Senior Prom was held at the Starlite Terrace in Quincy Saturday, May 6, 1972. The theme was The Old South. The entertainment consisted of a humorous skit and songs by a mixed ensemble and a solo by Diane Shank. The theme song was sung by Craig Baptist. Queen of the prom was Cheryl Dralle and king was Stan Frese. First attendants were Susan Moore and Paul Miller; second attendants were Julie Bruns and Bob Brady. A very special thanks to the Class of '73 for all the hard work and long hours they spent on the decorations. 66 “THE OLD SOUTH” 67 SENIOR TRIP For the Seniors of '72 the trip began at approximately 12:30 P.M. on Thursday, May 18, when they skillfully decorated the high school grounds. This lasted until around 3:30 when everyone finally departed. But their time and efforts were well spent, because this year on Awards Day the Class of '72 was given the Exterior Decorating Award over all classes in the past. From there, the fun ceased until 7:00 A. M. Saturday, May 20, when they boarded the buses destined for St. Louis. When they arrived, their first stop was a shopping center.where they were given an hour to do as they pleased. From there they were split into two groups-one going to the Cardinal-Cub ballgame and the other to the Zoo and then on to Six Flags. After the ballgame the other group joined them there. The Seniors spent the evening at Six Flags until closing time. Seemingly exhausted, they arrived at Central at about 2:00 A.M. Sunday morning, after a very enjoyable trip.
