Valedictorian MARCIA SWOPE, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Swope of Golden, has achieved Valedictorian for the year 1958-59. Her activities include Band, Chorus, Plus Ultra, GAA, FHA. Annual and Newspaper Staff. We are honored to have her as Valedictorian of our class. cl a s s . Salutatorian HARRIET POWELL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Powell of Coatsburg, has attained Salutatorian for the year 1958-59. Her activities include Plus Ultra. Biology Club, GAA, FHA, and Pep Club. She won a scholarship from the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and plans to D. A. R. Award The annual D.A.R. good citizenship award was presented to DEANNA WEISHEIT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weisheit of Clayton. She was a member of FHA for one year, and a member of Plus Ultra, Latin Club, also treasurer of the Senior class. She took a heavy course in mathematics and plans to enroll at Western University at Macomb. major in social science.

In the fall of 1956, the doors of Central were again opened to its students. This year our Sophomore class lost Garry DeWitt, Larry Herren. Shirley McCulley. Paige McGartland, Judy Rankin, and Larry Roland, but we gained Elaine Adams. Delbert Haschemeyer, Lyle Morgan. Jo Ann Russell, Jerry Wiley, and Patricia Davis. Our class sponsor was Mrs. Wickliffe. In the fall of 1957, we again entered the halls of Central, but this time as Jolly Juniors. Our class was sorry to report that we had lost the following classmates: Jo Ann Russellfi Elaine Adams. Mabel Alberts, Walter Bowmon, Edward Curless. Curtiss Davis, Patricia Davis, Janet Leenerts. Barbara Robbins, Robert Tournear, and Dick Winfield but we gained Sharon Coggeshall. Larr Hughes. Karen Kaehlert. Zona Myers, Kendall Keithley and Darrel Wood through the course of the year. Miss Buss and Mr. Parker were our sponsors. Returning in 1958 as sophisticated seniors we lost Kendall Keithley. Bonnie Disselhorst transferred to Quincy. During the last semester we lost Linda Cady, John Kestner. Barbara Schoene, and Donna Leenerts. We elected Gary Winget, President; Charles Lawless. Vice-President; Carolyn Hilker. Secretary; Deanna Weisheit. Treasurer; Rosa Lea Meaders. Reporter: and Norman Eilers,- Student Council. The senior sponsors were Mrs. Hufnagel. Mr. Hamilton. Mr. March, and Mr. Pacatte. The years activities consisted of taking senior pictures, ordering invitations, and preparing for graduation. We were guests at the Central High School Gym for the Junior and Senior prom. On our senior trip we spent two days at the Ozarks. Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises were held in the Central Gymnasium. Class History Jolene Gronewold. Class Prophecy Just as I awakened from my sleep in the Columbus State Park. I had a strange vision appear to me. I. strange as it may seem, thought about those who were in the Senior Class of 1959 of Central High School. Some of the following things could come true, but for the most part, we sincerely hope that they do not. BOBBY BAIRD had just signed a contract with the Pea Ridge Boys for 81,000,000. He is their No 1 Batboy. JACKIE BARRON is now the star soprano in the Metropolitan Opera. In the Summer she sings “The Star Spangled Banner” at Pea Ridge for the baseball games. JUDY BOOTH, with her husband. Bill Knight, are now living in the jungle with Sheena's pet chimp. JERRY BRINKMAN is now president of the Buick Division of the General Motors Corporation. JIM BRINKMAN took leave from the New York Knickerbockers to drive an F. S. Truck. EDNA BUBB is now a hair designer at Max Factors in New York.
